J Salik demands true representation of minorities in Pakistan

Islamabad: January 23, 2012. (PCP) Convener World Minorities Alliance (WMA) Mr. J.Salik has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure true representation of minorities in the Parliament and the provincial assemblies. Addressing the joint consultative meeting convened by the Election Commission of Pakistan, J.Salik also urged all political parties to support his demand for true representation of minorities as laid down in Article 226 of the Constitution of Pakistan. The joint consultative meeting was held here Monday in pursuit of Election Commission’s efforts to ensure free and fair elections in Pakistan. The meeting was attended by representatives of all political parties irrespective of their representation in the Parliament, representatives of civil society and the national media. WMA Chief Patron MNA Mehboobullah Jan also addressed the meeting. He said he would appreciate of the Election Commission could complete error-free electoral rolls as soon as possible. He appreciated the efforts being made by the Election Commission to ensure fair and free polls. Secretary Election Commission Mr. Ishtiak Ahmad assured Mr. J.Salik and Mr. Mehboobullah Jan that their demands and suggestions would be given due consideration. Mr. J Salik hoped thanked the Election Commission for providing him with a unique opportunity to address the joint consultative meeting and acknowledging his life-long experience of representing minorities. Mr J Salik, it may be mentioned, has the honor to have been elected thrice as representative of minorities by contesting polls at 33,000 polling stations.
