Islamabad: January 19, 2012. (PCP) The Tribute to the UK Democracy were paid in an event organized by World Minorities Alliance WMA organized here today in a local hotel, attended by national and international reputed leaders of Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and other religious communities.
The British are the great example of real Democracy where 20 minority members [9 Muslims, 4 Hindus Sikh’s and 7 others] are elected from direct voting. To promote the Art of the Pakistani artists on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee Exhibition of Portraits of the Head of state Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II was also organized by World Minority Alliance.
Former British MP Muhammad Sarwar said that we may have different backgrounds but belong to one human race. He promised to organize an exhibition of this versatile collection of paintings of British Queen in UK. He said that his Glasgow constituency has people of all religious denominations and their religious headquarters. He said that his constituency had only 10 per cent minority people. He said that we should give importance to minority rights. He said that Gojra carnage in Toba Tek Singh, his ancestor’s district, was the most tragic incident of his life.
He criticized the system of electing minority seats in Pakistan which force a candidate to become member of a political party. He called for giving two votes to minority voters: one for electing general legislator and the other for minority seat legislator.
The Omanis Ambassador said that those saying there is no peace in Pakistan should come here and see there is peace in the country. He also spoke in gulabi Urdu in the function. He said that the function provides soft image of Pakistan to the world.
Charan Jeet Singh Saghar with red turban started with Baba Nanak saying the whole world was created from one light and we had no right to label any one good or bad. He said as good Pakistani, we should respect all religions and countries. He said that love is the biggest shield and bond in the world. Hearts begets heart, he concluded.
J Salik called for respecting minority rights. He said Malaysia is a perfect example of inter-faith harmony which announces holidays on Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist days. He said 2.5 Muslims in UK are enjoying rights and 20 minority members are directly elected to Parliament which is not allowed in Pakistan.
MNA Mahboob Ullah Jan, chief patron of World Minorities Alliance, said that all human beings are one and all the Prophets (PBUT) talked of humanity. He said that love, peace and prosperity are our aims. Haroon said that we need peace for you, us and everybody. He said that we want to raise the issue of minority rights in UNO.
Maj Geoffrey Langland, Principal of Chitral School, and Sarfraz Peter also spoke on the occasion.
