Islamabad: December 21, 2011. (PCP) Christmas is the symbol of peace, this is how Julius Salik, chairman of the World Minorities Alliance, wished Christmas to his countrymen through large size banners on the walls at the inauguration ceremony of Christmas Tree and Peace Candle at his residence.  Wajid Bukhari, coordinator of the World Minorities Alliance in Europe and former federal minister for environment in the caretaker set-up of Mian Muhammad Soomro, lit a Peace Candle on the occasion.  The corners at both sides of the candle were adorned by two Christmas trees with bells and lights. On the right side was a green tree depicting progress and prosperity and on the left was white symbolising peace, which also indicates minorities in our national flag.  Peace is a long-standing obsession of the minority politician though unfortunately this dream of pacifists remains a utopia. And doves obviously were flying in his banners along with gift packs and bells. In an inset on a banner, Santa Claus was riding on a horse-driven chariot.  J Salik wished that 2012 be a year of peace. Speaking briefly, J Salik welcoming the guests wished blessings on the occasion adding that the current situation in the world, Pakistan and its neighbourhood was not conducive to peace but hoped that 2012 would bring peace in the world, in Pakistan and also improves our relations with Nato. He said that Christmas is the symbol of peace, love, care, brotherhood and humanity. He said that Christmas Tree is the sign of peace because Prince of Peace (the Christ) was born in this month. He said that Christmas gives massage to remove sorrows and grief while discouraging use of power and wars.  Wajid Bukhari said that we are living in a world fraught with conflicts and violence. Congratulating Christian brethren, he prayed for peace in Pakistan and the world.
