Pakistani Christian Youth on Capacity Building Training on Peace and Leadership

Faisalabad: November 16, 2011. (By Aamir Shahzad) Development organization for social transformation (DOST) in collaboration with Social democratic institute (SDI) and Green Pakistan organized a one-day capacity building training for youth. 40 Muslim and Christian, male and female youth actively participated in the training held at Taya Hall, Catholic Church, in Faisalabad on October 30, 2011. Aamir Shahzad (Executive Secretary-DOST) and Julia Mehboob (Chairperson-DOST) were among the organizers, while Ms. Aqsa (project coordinator at Arooj-e-Mariam Catholic Church, Joint secretary of youth Parliament Faisalabad, Pakistan), Hafiz Qasir Waseque (Executive Secretary-Green Pakistan), Atif Jamal (Program Coordinator- DOST) and Muzammal Hussain (Field Officer-Social Democratic Institute) were among the trainers. Mr. Salman Shakeel (Project Coordinator-CSC) was present as guest of honor and observer. The content of the training included; What is Leadership, Why we need peace, Conflict resolution and peace building, Role of youth in promotion of peace. Ms. Norina Jabeen (Women Coordinator-DOST) shared aims and objectives of the training, and convened the all sessions of the training. Ms. Julia Mehboob shared the introduction of DOST organization and its objectives. She also led in a short activity for the introduction of the participants. Mr. Atif Jamal said, “Youth must adopt positive approach in order to lead a contented life, because positive thinking brings inner peace, success and happiness, whereas negative thoughts, words and attitude cause unhappiness and negativity, and curtail the way to failure, frustration and disappointment.” He also shared the qualities of a good leader, types of leadership and Functions of leadership. A group activity was also given to the participants at the end of his session for the brain storming of the participants. Ms. Aqsa Kanwal shared the concepts of conflict resolution. She described many examples to make simpler the input given by her regarding conflict resolution. Her session was very informative and appreciated by the participants. She encourages much to the participants for the efforts in regard to peace building. The sharing by participants was also very healthy and productive. Mr. Hafiz Qasir Waseque shared the concept of peace and why we need the peace. He termed the peace as the main pillar for the promotion of human rights and democracy. He said that peace can be promoted only in a democratic society. We should make more strengthen to all democratic institutions. It is obligation of society and all political parities to work for the promotion of peace. Peace is very necessary for the promotion of inter faith harmony he added. Mr. Muzammal Hussain shared the role of youth for the promotion of peace. He shared some example from history and said the youth was behind at every revolution the world. Youth is main and most important group of religious or political parties. He emphasizes upon education and skill trainings for youth for the peace and progress in the country. He encourages youth to participate in political process to choose better leadership for the sustainable peace in Pakistan. Mr. Salman Shakeel shared the sayings of Nelson Mandela and Marten Luther King and some other famous leaders in the world. He also put the light upon the achievements of these leaders. The objectives and efforts of Christian Study Centre were also shared during his sessions. Mr. Aamir Shahzad thanked all the trainers and participants. He said youth is our most active partner for the promotion of peace, democracy and human rights.
