Pakistan: November 3, 2011. (By Ahmar Mustikhan) One of the two Baloch victims whose bullet-riddled and tortured bodies were found Wednesday night in Balochistan's Winder area has left behind a pregnant wife, according to the victim's family member who lives in the United States. Faraz Baloch, son of former provincial government official and pro-independence poet Ulfat Nasim, was abducted October 9 along with his friend Omid Baloch from Hub, Balochistan's lone industrial town bordering Pakistan's commercial capital Karachi. “He was abducted by paramilitary personnel of the Frontier Corps who came in three vehicles along with police,” the victim's relative told this scribe Thursday on phone anonymously. “Many locals saw the abduction in broad daylight,” the relative said. The victim's relative said the victim was married less than two years ago and had a pregnant wife. He said though the family is originally from Panjgur, they are now residing in Khuzdar. The victim was a nephew of Jahanzeb Baloch, secretary general of the pro-democracy Balochistan National Party. The party is led by Baloch Nelson Mandela and former chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal. The victim's father in his poetry staunchly advocated freedom. According to former bureaucrat and well-known Baloch intellectual Jan Mohammed Dashti, "The poet Ulfat Nasim writes in his poem Gwank[33] that although the Baloch is oppressed he will follow the banner of freedom and fight the enemy with renewed determination, because freedom can only be purchased with blood." Fate of a cousin of Faraz Baloch named Nako Khair Bux Baloch who was abducted on October 27 is unknown, the Faraz Baloch's sister told a Press conference outside the Quetta Press Club. Philadelphia-based Baloch political activist Mohamad Ali Baloch expressed outrage over the killing and said Ulfat Nasim was his close friend. “Balochistan's pro-democracy and pro-militant forces must join hands to confront the extrajudicial killings,” he appealed. Bloated egos of the tribal elite have left the Baloch divided. Two of Balochistan's most senior politicians and tribal heavyweights, former member of the national assembly Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri and former Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal both live in Karachi's Defense Housing Authority -- upscale locality built for Pakistan army officers more 40 years ago --, but are not on talking terms, though they are related. Scores of Baloch commoners have been killed by Pakistan Frontier Corps, Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence services July 2010 in what the Amnesty International calls Islamabad's kill-and-dump policy. Body of Faraz Baloch, son of poet Ulfat Nasim, and his friend Omid Ali were dumped in Winder Wednesday night. They were abducted in front of scores of witnesses on October 9 from Hub.
