ISLAMABAD: October 28, 2011. (PCP) While lashing out at government for announcing four new ministries on day of Mother-e-Jamhuriat, Mohtarma Nusrat Bhutto’s soyum, Julius Salik Convener World Minorities Alliance termed the decision, as bad omen for the future of democracy. He said that under the 18th amendment passed by the incumbent government announced to reduce the number of ministries; however the recent decision is self-contradictory to their public statements. He said it was quite startling that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani made the announcement when the nation was busy in Mother-e-Jamurat, Mohtarma Nusrat Bhutto’s soyum. The Convener said that founder chairman of Pakistan Peoples’ Party late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto keeping in view the minorities rights created separate Minority ministry some 37 years ago so as to cope with their problems, however it is quite unfortunate that the PPP-led government abolished that ministry, which is not only against PPP’s founder idea, but also negation of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam’s thoughts, who gave due respect to minorities, he added. He said that they would soon move apex court against the government’s decision pertaining to devolution of minority ministry to federating units, adding that the present democratic government is in actual continuation of the former (Retd) general Musharraf regime, even worse than that, as it legitimized about 60 to 70 National Assembly seats sans voting, which negation the very norm of democracy. Salik made it clear that he already challenged the 18th amendment in the Supreme Court; however the case in this regard is pending in the court. It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday created four new federal ministries with divisions including the Ministries of National Heritage and Integration, Disaster Management, National Regulations and Services, and Food Security and Research.
