DBA express solidarity with anticorruption activist

Mandi Bahauddin: September 20, 2011. (Sher Gondal) DBA General Body meeting was held on Tuesday at bar room to show lawyers solidarity with Raja Jahangir who had been observing hunger strike at Islamabad to press the rulers to table anti-corruption bill in the parliament and turning Pakistan into a democratic welfare state. President DBA Waseem Maken chaired the meeting. The president when addressing the meeting said demands of the striker were genuine but attitude shown by rulers in accepting the demands were deplorable. Senior advocate Manzoor Tarar in his speech said voice of the striker was voice of the people. He said the striker had stirred a revolution in silent minds if the people by resorting to hunger strike and lawyers commended him for taking this bold initiative. Fateh Gondal ex bar president said adopting illegal ways to rule the country fell in the ambit of corruption and the present set up of rulers including civil and military bureaucracy was all involved in promotion of this menace. Tariq Ranjha who is leader of young advocates said the rulers were setting bad example by indulging in mal practices and raising voice by Raja for elimination of corruption was call of the hour. A three time elected former president of the bar Ghulam Ali Sahi said that people including the lawyers were corrupted themselves, because it were they who had elected the present parliamentarians. He urged lawyers to reform themselves prior to raising fingers on others. Choudhry Farooq Gondal advocate said now the corruption had reached a stage when train bogies were being stolen in railway department. He said we were all sunk in corruption up to neck and campaign launched by Raja against corruption had awakened the nation from slumber. Kaiser Abbas Gondal deploring corruption prevalent in revenue department said the revenue officials found involved in misappropriating millions of rupees had not been proceeded against and they were still serving because there was no check on them by senior revenue officers. Finally the bar unanimously resolved to support the striker in achieving the objective and urging rulers to accept his demands.
