Lawyers protest against government’s defiance of SC verdicts

Mandi Bahauddin: July 28, 2011. (sher Gondal) “The government is trampling “rule of law” and committing contempt of court by defying orders continuously passed by apex court”, said lawyers’ leaders while addressing a bar meeting held here at District Bar Room on Thursday to protest against continuous defiance of SC verdicts by the government. They said SC passed a verdict to reopen cases dropped under Reconciliation Ordinance including those of in Swiss courts but government did not execute that deliberately to provide protection to looters of national wealth. In another case the court asked the Centre to appoint NAB chairman but after the expiry of the dateline the top post was still lying vacant. Notification to de-notify PCO judges had also not been issued as ordered by SC. Orders were issued to initiate investigations against former chairman CDA Kamran Lashari in F-9 park case but no action was taken in this regard. Probe was ordered against responsible government officials in LNG quota case but this order was also not implemented. Investigation officers in NICL and hajj corruption cases had also not been reinstated and court orders were being violated. They said due to wrong policies of government people were facing terrorism, target killings. The country was in great danger of disintegration due to alarming situation. Government had also failed to control power load shedding, inflation, lawlessness, poverty, unemployment and unabated corruption at all levels of administration, they added. They showed solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and warned the rulers that they knew how to besiege Islamabad to get rid of corrupts rulers. They demanded of government to execute all verdicts passed by the apex court other wise lawyers movement would again commence. The lawyers also observed boycott of courts and took out a protest rally on Phalia – Mandi Road that ended at King Road. Speakers included bar President Waseem Maiken, Manzoor Tarar, Sher Gondal, Bashir Butt, Manzoor Cheddar, Sheikhu and Amanullah Luk.
