LARKANA: July 22, 2011. (By Nazir Siyal) A large number of Journalist community in Larkana Press Club (LPC) expressed concern over the interference of Commissioner Larkana, Deputy Commissioner and other district officials in the affairs of Press Club and influencing on independent decisions here on Friday.
The members meeting unanimously decided that the officials should avoid the involvement and do not oppose the decisions of Journalists or threats, because the Journalist body is an independent body with by laws and they have freedom of expression and officials must avoid their imposition of their own decisions on Journalists community, media men demanded.
The meeting was presided over by the acting President Larkana Union of Journalists (LUJ) Mohammed Ali Behleem along with President Press Club Zafar Abro here on Friday, it was said that the affairs of LPC and body should continue their activities till the new elections on December 2011.
Meanwhile, LPC General Secretary and LUJ Secretary General also briefed about the Press Club activities and other issues.
On the occasion, LUJ Secretary General Dr. Badar Shaikh expressed that the High Court petition No. 863/2008 had restrained the district administration Larkana to interfere in the affairs of Prses Club Larkana.
He further said that the former President LPC had violated the constitution and misappropriated Rs. 4 million funds; in this regard the Journalists Community in a meeting had suspended the membership of S. Iqbal Babu and others.
The meeting demanded that the district administration Larkana should refrain from mounting pressure on members of Press Club and avoid the interference of LPC affairs, otherwise the Journalists’ community all over country would extend their protest against Larkana administration they said.
Later, the media men strongly condemned the kidnapping and killings of Journalists and demanded the protection of media men all over country.
