Speaking at a press conference at the Rawalpindi Press Club camp office, Mr. Salik said besides the minorities, the poor had also been neglected in the new budget. This is yet another anti- poor budget seeking to advance only the interests of the elite and the bureaucracy, he added. He said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was elected from Thar, an area dominated by minority, but the very minority was ignored in the budget. "The prime minister is a technocrat and is not aware of the problems of minority and lower class, therefore, there is no hope that he could ever be able to solve their problems." Salik was of the view that the National Assembly was a puppet assembly in which 70 MNAs had been elected on reserved seats. These MNAs were representatives of political parties and not of women and minority, he added. He said the bureaucracy considered the citizens without brains, and believed that it could take this country in whichever direction it wanted. However, this country, which came into being after great sacrifices, did not belong to bureaucrats, he added. He also criticized the color and type of uniform being worn by sweepers and sanitary workers, and said yellow was a symbol of hatred. He said the uniform was made of parachute cloth and could not be worn in hot season.
