Rawalpindi: June 26, 2011. (PCP) “Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Karachi and many other cities are in Azad Kashmir or in Pakistan? Then why Muslims living in Pakistan are voting in Elections of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly? How long Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Election will be held without adoption of constitution of Azad Kashmir? Is it National or International Drama of government Pakistan? Is Azad Kashmir integral part of Pakistan or an independent state? Azad means (Independent) Is independent Kashmir really Independent or governed from Islamabad? Is Independent Kashmir then why Muslims living in Pakistani cities vote for Kashmir Assembly?” Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have raised these questions on ongoing Azad Kashmir Assembly voting today.
“I want to bring in notice of National and International community that Government of Pakistan have awarded Dual Voting Right to Kashmiri Muslims that they may vote in National General Elections of Pakistan in their respective constituencies and also vote in Azad Kashmir legislative Assembly elections but denies such right to millions of Christian voters who want to elect their representatives” said Nazir Bhatti
These Kashmiri Muslims are permanent residents of Pakistan and have never even seen valley of Azad Kashmir but still government of Pakistan awards them Dual Voting Right.
The Pakistani Christians cannot elect their parliamentarians by their votes on reserved seats but Muslim parties select their representatives while Christians have to vote for Muslim candidate in their respective constituencies.
“It undemocratic to Select and Impose on Christian their representatives by Muslim political parties because such Selected Christian persons are forced to speak their master’s voice not to express wishes of common Christian” added Nazir Bhatti
PCC Chief said that if government of Pakistan allows to practice Dual Voting right to Kashmiri Muslims living in Pakistan then why denial to 20 million Pakistani Christians.
The Muslim political groups and establishment imposed Joint Electorate system for religious minorities empowering them to select representatives on 10 reserved seats in National Assembly of Pakistan in 2002, national general elections. The Christians were electing their parliamentarians by their votes on these reserved seats from 1985 to 1998.
To hijack Christian vote bank and to end voice of Christians in parliament, new system of Selection was introduced in Pakistan.
Whenever, Pakistani Christians raised voice for Dual Voting right in Pakistan, the government denied practice of such elections in Pakistan but today it is Day To Note that Dual Voting is being practiced in Pakistan in Drama Elections of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Elections. Is it not sub-standard policy of hypocrite administration of Islamic Republic of Pakistan?
Nazir Bhatti urged government of Pakistan to give millions of Christian their basic democratic right to Elect their representatives in parliament instead of Selection.
