WASHINTON DC: June 21, 2011. (By Ahmar Mustikhan) To mark the International day Against Torture, a talk "Torture as a Weapon of State Terrorism in Pakistan, Iran" will be held Saturday June 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the National Press Club in Washington DC.
The event has been organized by the pro-independence American Friends of Balochistan.
Torture is a huge issue in Balochistan where as many as 10,000 people faced severe torture at the hands of Pakistan's infamous Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence and Frontier Corps during the last five years as the Baloch people struggle for an independent homeland.
More than 1,300 Balochistan political activists are still being held victims of enforced disappearances and being tortured at Gestapo-style torture cells run by the Pakistan's infamous C.I.A. called the I.S.I.
In particular journalists, human rights defenders, lawyers, student leaders are being targeted by Islamabad in Balochistan. As many as 200 freedom activists were forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security and itelligence services, tortured and killed execution style and their bodies dumped since July last year in what Amnesty International called was Islamabad's kill-and-dump policy.
The event will be presided over by Dr. Nazir S. Bhatti, president of the Pakistan Christian Congress and editor of the Pakistan Christian Post. Christians face different forms of torture in Pakistan, Iran and many other countries.
