LARKANA: June 6, 2011. (By Nazir Siyal) Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Professor Nazir Ahmed Sangi said on Saturday that the Model Study Centers will be established at diferent parts of country, while 30 thousand teachers’ trainings will be imparted all over country to improve their skills and capacity development. This he said while addressing the press conference here at Larkana press club.
Vice Chancellor further said that the model study centers including Umerkot, Nawabshah and Larkana will be established very soon by AIOU, adding that the Organization has 36 regional offices throughout country and currently 1.2 million students are studding in the different fields at various locations.
He said AIOU is the world's second University, which provides an opportunity for working people to enhance their qualifications without giving up their jobs or homes. In Pakistan distance education is particularly suited to the female population as it offers them an opportunity to study at home.
He further said that similarly, people living in the tribal and far-flung areas far from conventional educational institutions, have an opportunity to be educated.
Professor Nazir Sangi informed that the University has established a video-conferencing network in seven regions to conduct classes online for Computer Science Courses, adding that the regional network consists of 36 Regional Campuses/Centers with 82 part-time regional coordinating offices throughout Pakistan.
He told that Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto was the founder of AIOU initially its name was Peoples Open University in 1974, but later it was renamed Allama Iqbal open university on 1977, added that the campus will be set at Larkana in connection with the efforts are under way to acquire land or building, while in Bahawalpur a AIOU University on 6 acre area foundation has been laid by Prime Minister of Pakistan he told.

In another incident a woman Tasleem 23 w/o Muslim Mirani Resident of Dokri consumed a poisonous drug due to the domestic problem. She was rushed to Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana, where she passed away.
In another incident, the body of Shahnwawaz 25 s/o Mohammed Parial Chohan resident of Bilawal Colony Larkana was found from Pir Sher road Larkana city.
The body of deceased was shifted to the CMC hospital for autopsy and handed over to the heirs on the occasion.
