Faisalabad: April 9, 2011. (By Shahid Anwar ) A 40 year old Christian Arif Masih from Chak 129/RB, Tibbi, Jhumra, Faisalabad was arrested from his residence on 5th April 2011 by the local police on the accusation for ripping the pages of Holy Quran and writing a threatening letter to the Muslims for embracing Christianity. A blasphemy case (FIR # 133/2011) was registered under section 295-C against unknown person with local Police Station Sahiyanwala on the formal complaint of Shahid Yousaf. Now, Arif Masih is in detention of police and they kept him at unknown place. The law and order situation is under control and police personnel are depute at the area so that any untoward incident may not happened.
The complainant Shahid Yousaf stated in the FIR that on 5th April 2011 at night about 9 p.m. he found some pages in front of his house. When he read these pages with his mobile torch, he came to know that these pages were from Quran and “Sur-e-Yaseen” and “Sur-e-Yousaf” written on these pages along with a threatening letter.
Ejaz Masih, brother of Arif Masih exposed to National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP), Faisalabad that his brother was trapped in this concocted and fabricated case by their neighbor Shahid Yousaf on the grudge of a residential house which is adjacent to their house. He was not nominated in First Information Report (FIR) and he has been detained by the police on suspicion. Two brothers of accuser namely Zahid Yousaf and Rashid Yousaf are doing job in Elite Police Force that are backing this case.
The Muslims and Christians of the area believed that Arif Masih could not dare to commit such kind of outrageous act. He was wrongly implicated in this incident on land dispute.
The relatives of the victim approached to Fr. Nisar Barkat (Diocesan Director, National Commission for Justice and Peace) for help. Fr. Nisar Barkat had a meeting with Mr. Naseem Sadiq (District Coordination Officer, Faisalabad) and other police officials for the release of Arif Masih. Mr. Naseem Sadiq said, “Arif Masih is in the safe custody of police and an investigation team is looking into matter, and we know that Arif Masih is falsely involved in this case as happens in previous blasphemy cases, but we are trying to apprehend the real culprits”.
