New York: March 29, 2011. (PCP) Mr. Tariq Javed, Chief of ICCF in a speech in front of United Nations Building said that on behalf of the Pakistani Christians of North America, I welcome you all on the occasion of Prayer Vigil/Memorial Service for our beloved Christian leader and politician, Mr Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, Government of Pakistan, who was brutally assassinated on March 2, 2011, by the Taliban for his support and efforts in bridging the gap between the majority and minority people of Pakistan.
Mr Bhatti throughout his life struggled for creating love, brotherhood and harmony among people of different religions and creed.
He was trying to help the minorities in general and the Christians in particular who are falsely accused in cases under Blasphemy Law and are waiting for pending decisions in the Courts.
The world knows that he was a strong supporter of an accused, Aasia Bibi, and like the late Governor of the Punjab, Salman Taseer, wanted pardon for her but met the same fate like the Governor who was killed by his own bodyguard on January 4, 2011.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today we remember our national hero, Shahbaz Bhatti Shaheed and vow to continue the struggle and mission for bringing changes in the Blasphemy Law by appealing to the United Nations, Human Rights Organizations and the World leaders.
Today we remember and pray for the slain leader and also pray for those who are in jails for the false cases under Blasphemy Law. I request all of you to support us in our cause of national and religious interest.
