Karachi: February 21, 2011. (PCP) The Rt. Rev. Dr. Ijaz Inayat consecrated on Sunday, 13th Feb, the Revd. Saddiq M. Bhatti as "The first Bishop of Evangelical Episcopal Church of Pakistan” for the area of Lahore and Kasur.
Bishops John Victor Mall and Anwer Aziz assisted the consecrated ceremony along with the clergy in a high charged spiritual atmosphere at the Bishops Chapel, Holy Trinity Cathedral Church.
The Rt. Rev. Dr. Ijaz Inayat stressed upon the need of creating a tolerant society eliminating sectarian and religious extremism which are eating up the basic fabric of our society. He said that all people are free to celebrate their beliefs in the Federation of Pakistan. This provision has been granted by God Himself and also by the Constitution of Pakistan, to respect the liberty of a person as to what to believe and practice. He further said that the leaders of the society have immense responsibility to shape the society which should be done on basis of settled human principles.
The newly consecrated Bishop Saddiq M. Bhatti pledged to serve the community, society and Pakistan to the best of his abilities in the spirit of service.
A large number of participants both clergy and laity congratulated Bishop Saddiq M. Bhatti and garlanded him assuring him for full cooperation.
