Karachi: January 29, 2011. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have appealed to every Christian in Pakistan to offer prayers on January 30, 2011, for release of Asia Bibi and repeal of blasphemy law. “We fully support call by Catholic Bishop of Islamabad to observe Prayer Day for release of Asia Bibi and to repeal of blasphemy law and I urge other Christian denominations and Civil Society activists to express solidarity with praying gatherings” said Nazir Bhatti Asia Bibi was sentenced to death on accusations of defiling name of Prophet Mohammad by ADJC Nankana and now waiting for her appeal in Lahore High Court in security cell of Sheikhupura jail. The Lahore High Court have not fixed date of hearing of appeal till filing our story. The Islamic Parties with massive street power are pressing upon government of Pakistan not to touch blasphemy law while Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gillani have assured religious group that government of Pakistan will not amend or repeal blasphemy law. Governor Punjab Salman Tasser, who campaigned for pardon to Christian mother Asia Bibi was gunned down by his bodyguard in Islamabad on January 4, 2011. The killer of Shaheed Salman Taseer was garlanded and rose petals were spread on his way to Islamabad districts courts by the hundreds of lawyers. Nazir Bhatti said that its time for Christian unity in Pakistan and to forget organizational and denominational differences and January 30th is the day. Dr. Nazir Bhatti condemned Pakistan Peoples Party PPP government’s U-Turn stance on blasphemy law on pressure on Islamic groups. “Non of political party in parliament is sincere in repeal of blasphemy law because the laws of General Zia-Ul-Haq were scratched in 18th Amendment of constitution of Pakistan but blasphemy law was excluded” said Nazir Bhatti
