Pakistani Christian congratulate Rep. Frank Wolf on bill for religious minorities in Islamic countries
Karachi: January 28, 2011. (PCP) Pakistan Christian Congress PCC welcomes move by Republican Congressman for protection of religious minorities in Islamic countries said a statement issued by Central Council of PCC here today.
Rep. Frank Wolf, co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, said threats against religious minorities have been increasing in recent months and that the United States has an obligation to speak out for the voiceless, to develop policies to protect and preserve these communities, and to prioritize these issues in our broader foreign policy.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) today introduced bipartisan legislation calling for the creation of a special envoy at the U.S. State Department for religious minorities in the Near East and South Central Asia.
“If the international community fails to speak out, the prospects for religious pluralism and tolerance in the region are bleak,” Wolf said in introducing the bill. “President Ronald Reagan once said that the U.S. Constitution is a ‘covenant that we have made not only with ourselves, but with all of mankind.’’
The Pakistani Christians came under attack of Muslims weather USA attacked Iraq, Afghanistan or Gulf war but US administration never raised voice for equal democratic rights of Pakistani Christians.
The seven Christian women and children were burnt alive by Muslim mob, hundreds of homes were destroyed, Christian worshipers were shot dead in Churches, innocent Christians were gunned down on pretext to blasphemy law and Christian women were enforcedly converted to Islam in Pakistan but USA never bothered to speak for them.
It is on record that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was visiting Pakistan when Pakistani electronic media was broadcasting news of rape and attempt to murder of Christian student nurse of JPMC by influential Muslim doctor but she refrain from asking for justice to poor Christian student girl to her counterpart in Pakistan.
The sufferings of Pakistani Christians became worse after Gulf War and Islamic elements punished them on actions of USA.
US administration is aiding billions every year to Pakistan but there is not any welfare project under US Aid for Christians. If some Church based organizations are on list of US Aid, ordinary Pakistani Christian is not beneficiary of those funds.
Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have frequently appealed President Obama administration to link US aid to Pakistan on Human Rights and Religious Freedom but not a positive consideration is given to such appeals .
Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC in a message to Rep. Frank Wolf, congratulated him for his services to persecuted Christians and other religious minorities and appreciated for a bill for religious minorities.
