Karachi: January 22, 2011. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said that religious extremism in Pakistan have damaged our cultural and social values and government is under siege of Islamists. The statement of PCC Chief was issued here today from PCC Central Council Secretariat regretting government’s failure on presenting motion of condolences and prayers in National Assembly or Provincial Assemblies on death of its Christian Cabinet Minister’s father. Nazir Bhatti said that it was part of our cultural values that Muslims and Christian were participating in each others funerals from centuries and offering their religious prayers for deceased but unfortunately rising wave of Islamic extremism have destroyed it. Nazir Bhatti was commenting on death of Master Jacob Bhatti, father of Federal Minority Minister Shahbaz Bhatti but Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilliani, President Asif Ali Zardari nor any Muslim Cabinet Minister issued any condolence statement on death of their Christian collogues father. It is on record that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Guillani have been participating in funeral services of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP activists and their relatives. It has raised question weather Federal Minister for Minorities is counted even member of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP or not that Prime Minister House or President House have not bothered to issue a condolence press note or visited residence of Shahbaz Bhatti to expressed their grief on death of his father. Nazir Bhatti said “It seems as government of Pakistan is under siege of Islamists and afraid to practice cultural and social values of sharing grief of deceased families as expression of brotherhood and harmony among different religious communities” “The issue to offer prayers for Christian deceased, first surfaced when one minority community member of National Assembly of Pakistan presented a motion to offer prayers for Two Christian Brothers who were gunned down by Islamists in District Courts of Faisalabad during hearing in a blasphemy case but opposition Muslim members of National Assembly blocked that motion with arguments that Islamic Prayers “Fatehha” is not just for infidel Christians” added Nazir Bhatti The second incident occured, when Islamic clerics issued decree “Fattwa” not to participate in funeral services of Salman Tasser who commented on blasphemy law and recommended pardon for Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five, sentenced to death on accusations of blasphemy. Nazir Bhatti said that President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan and other Muslim Federal Ministers have acted like Islamic clerics and not condoled death of father of Federal Minority Minister Shahbaz Bhatti which have surprised millions of Pakistani Christians. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan welcomed resolution adopted by European Parliament on January 20, 2011, to urge President of Pakistan to repeal blasphemy law and immediate release of Asia Bibi.
