Lahore: December 24, 2010. (PCP) The alliance of Islamic parties took out protest processions after Friday prayers to warn government of Pakistan on any revision or repeal in blasphemy law here today.
There were protest rallies in every city of Pakistan but major processions were taken out in Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Peshawar.
The Islamic protestors in Lahore shouted slogans “Hang asia Bibi” “Jihad if government touched blasphemy law” “Punishment for blasphemer Asia Bibi”
Asia Bibi was arrested in June 2009, on accusation of defiling name of Prophet Mohammad and sentenced to death by hanging by Session Courts Nankana on November 8, 2010.
Asia Bibi is in Seikhupura District jail waiting for her appeal filed in Lahore High Courts against sentence of lower court but under pressure by Islamic groups its hearing was postponed.
Sherry Rehman, PPP parliamentarian submitted private bill in National Assembly of Pakistan to amend blasphemy law but her seat is challenged in Lahore High Court on preparing draft to revise blasphemy law to pressure her.
The President of Pakistan have powers to Pardon under Article 45, of constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan but a Division Bench of Lahore High Court blocked such powers to pardon Asia Bibi issuing orders on petition filed by a Muslim.
The wave of fear spread among Christians after watching protest reports of Islamic parties on electronic media ahead of preparations to join Mid-Night services of Christmas.
There were e-Mails to Pakistan Christian Post from dozens of fearful Christians from different cities of Pakistan who were planning to stay home instead of joining Mid-Night prayers on fear of any attack by Islamists.
PCC had appealed to Islamic Parties to postpone December 24 and December 31, 2010, protests but it was not considered.
Till filing this story, there were no reports of attack on any Church or property of Christian by Islamic protesters in any city.
