Italy: December 24, 2010. The Coptic Egyptians in Italy are suffering, because of many attacks and oppressive incidents inflicted on their brethren in the Arabic Republic of Egypt. One recent event has claimed the lives of two young people. During this conflict nearly seventy Coptic-Christians were injured and 158 young men and women were arrested - seventy of whom were released. The rest are still in custody being interrogated by the police who are back lashing the Coptic community in Egypt for unjust reasons. Many Coptic youths are being discriminated against, and are being brutally attacked by the Egyptian forces, who are violently beating the Coptic Youths with batons. The attack inevitably turned into a shooting spree where the Egyptian police began using stones, tear gas, and rubber bullets. Questions still remain as to why the government did not stop the attack, because the government has officially pledged to protect people participating in demonstrations, and to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Unfortunately, over the past years the Coptic- Christians have been suffering, as a result of the neglect shown towards the Coptic-Christians by the Egyptian government. This suffering includes: destroyed and stolen property, the death of several Coptic-Christians (Jewelers in the Naga Hammadi and Olives), and murdered live-stock- specifically pork. In fact, the Egyptian have decided to abolish the selling of pork products in Egypt, causing many Coptic-owned stores to go out of business. As a result, families are currently financially devastated and have no income, thus rendering them homeless. Other events include the burning of houses in the city of Obuchi, and the burning of pharmacies and homes in the cities of Dairut and Farshout.Various Coptic-Christians have decided to protest against this new act, by participating in sit-ins and strikes. The Coptic community is asking the state to : 1 - Apply the same legal rights to Coptic-Christians as to Muslims in Egypt 2 – Rid official applications of questions regarding religion. 3 – Enforce legal laws to guarantee the Coptic-Christian rights 4 – Provide protection for the Coptic-Christians and their property in Egypt. 5 –to not interefere in Coptic-Christian affairs. 6 – Abolish the discrimination against Coptic-Christians within Egypt’s academic facilities, to reform the academic curriculum in order to provide a healthy learning atmosphere, and to erase any content within learning books which may humiliate Coptic-Christians . 7 – .Release all Coptic-Christians who were captured, especially Father Mattaos Wahba and the Omrania Youth. 8 – Ask the media to be impartial when reporting news about the Muslims and/or Coptics. We pray for the souls of our brothers the martyrs, for the injured, for those who were unjustly imprisoned, and we pray for their families and pray for the safety of our beloved Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak, and all those involved in his management. Moreover, we pray for unity in Egypt.
