Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari has traditionally greeted Sikh pilgrims, Hindus and other minorities on the occasion of Christmas, Holi and now Baisakh
Washington DC: December 18, 2010. (By Ahmar Mustikhan) One of the world's few Muslims who have tried for equality of sexes in Islam has jumped to the rescue of the Christian mother of five who awaits being hanged in Pakistan.
Celebrated journalist and author, Asra Nomani, now teaches at the Georgetown University and her students say she is as disoriented as Einsten. Nomani has written a hard-hitting piece in The Daily Beast to urge Pakistan to free Aasia Bibi, 45, who has been sentenced to death for allegedly blaspheming Islam's Prophet Mohammad.

"The case of Aasia Bibi underscores the challenge of forging an Islamic identity in the 21st century that expresses a tolerant interpretation of Islam. The showdown is coming down to a sad clash of the nuns and the mullahs. And it's a battle in which the mullahs must lose," she writes.
Nomani has boldy fought her battles even though in the eyes of Muslim majority she stands condemned for giving birth to a child out of wedlock.

Meanwhile, the president of Pakistan Christian Congress, Dr. Nazir Bhatti, has expressed his deep anguish that Aasia Bibi might be killed in Pakistan.
Speaking at a conference organized by the Voice of Copts at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, he regretted that Christmas is at hand but Aasia Bibi is still in Sheikhupura jail, in Punjab province of Pakistan.
"She will not be with her children and husband to welcome carol parties in her home, nor will she be able to participate in mid-night services nor say 'Merry Christmas' to her friends and relatives. She is scared to death in her jail cell," Bhatti said.
He said Christians have seen better days in Pakistan when they were air vice marshals, army generals, ambassadors, secretaries, chiefs of police, high judges and chairmen of major corporations
"Is it the same Pakistan? Where Christian women are abducted, gang raped, forcibly converted to become mistresses of Muslims?," he asked
