Columbus, Ohio, USA: December 1, 2010. (PCP) The Metropolitan Archbishops of the Corpus Christi Communion have written a letter to the President of Pakistan to prevent the execution of Asia Bibi and have appealed for her clemency. Phillip Zimmerman, DD, John Bell, DD, Isaac Kramer, PhD, ThD, William Quinlan, DD, the presiding Bishops of Corpus Christi Communion, Reformed Ecumenical Church, Reformed Gnostic Church and Reformed Catholic Church have submitted clemency appeal for Asia Bibi in Pakistan Embassy at Washington DC. Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 3517 International Court NW Washington DC 20008To the Honorable Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan: Asalaamu Alaykum! We, the Metropolitan Archbishops and Patriarch of Corpus Christi Communion, write to your Excellency with a desperate prayer for clemency for Mrs. Asia Bibi, a mother of five children, who was recently sentenced to death by the Islamic Court of Sheikupura for the offence of blasphemy. We join the rich diversity of voices from many faith traditions from around the world to humbly plead, in the name of the God who made us all, that you grant full pardon this woman and permit her to return to her children, who so desperately need a mother if they are to be good, whole and happy citizens of Pakistan. Great nations are made, not by acts of power or vengeance, but through their willingness to show unconditional mercy and unfettered clemency when the passions of the populous may call for extreme punishment. This is such a pivotal and historic moment for you and the government of your nation. Pakistan is a vitally important nation in the eastern hemisphere of the world, and has been presented with a unique opportunity to demonstrate that Sharia Law can exist peacefully alongside Secular law, all the while protecting the dignity and rights of the great diversity of the people of your great nation. However, if this unfortunate woman is permitted to be executed, Pakistan will potentially risk the advent of dangerous vigilante extremist “justice” which will ultimately divide your country by religious lines, destroying the many democratic and humanitarian advances of recent years. Your courageous, compassionate leadership will set the agenda for ALL your people, Muslim, Christian, Jew or people of other faiths, who are all proud to be known as Pakistani. May our voices be heard, and may your heart give you the courage and wisdom to spare the world of this act of violence against humanity. May God continue to bless you and the people of Pakistan. Khoda Hafez! Your brothers In God our Creator,
