Karachi: November 24, 2010. (PCP) Protesters demanded the immediately release of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman, sentenced to death under blasphemy law in Punjab, in front of Karachi Press Club.
The members of Action Committee for Human Rights led by William Sadiq who is coordinator ACHA, staged a protest demonstration on Sunday 21st Nov. 2010, out side the press club Karachi, Pakistan, against the death sentenced of a Christian woman Asia Bibi, resident of Ittawali Village in Nankana district, Punjab, Pakistan.
The protestors were carrying banners and placards inscribing with slogans like “innocent Asia Bibi should be release” “repeal 295-C” “announce Judiciary committee for investigation of Asia case”.
The protestors said this blasphemy law (295-B & C) should be repeal because women and religious minorities are not safe under this law, no one proved by superior court that any person committed any king of blasphemy and said that the government of Pakistan must provide protection to Asia and her family.
Asia was working in the village farm on June 14, 2009, when an argument started after Muslim farm workers including Maafia and Asma, refused to drink water fetched by her on plea that she was a Christian. Muslim girls later approached the village’s prayer leader Qari Salaam who pressured the local police Station (Saddar, Nankana) to get a case registered under blasphemy laws (295-B & C), Asia, a mother of five, who was beaten up and then handed over to the police, despite Asia denied the charge forcefully, and said that “I swore on the Bible that I never uttered any derogatory remark against the Holy Prophet(PBUH), but they never listened to me and booked me in a crime that I never committed”. A sessions court in Nankana sentenced her to death. Asia contended in her petition that as an illiterate person she could never be a preacher of Christianity, an allegation made in report FIR.
