Cairo: November 24, 2010. (PCP) The Voice of Copts, a US based organization of Egyptian Coptic Christian Diaspora have issued a press note that information from Cairo indicates that Egyptian state security broke into St. Mary's church and threw tear gas shells and fired live rounds on civilian Copts who were gathered in and around the Church. The Egyptian fascist-Islamic regime's police killed at least one person during its operation of destroying the church fence while another church known by the name of Martyr Mina was attacked also. The Founder of Voice of Copts organization, Dr. Ashraf Ramelah remained in contact with Coptic Christians in Cairo who told him that one Coptic Christian was killed and many injured. Dr, Ashraf Ramelah told PCP that confusing news are reaching our offices from Cairo which indicates that some Copts were killed and some injured. The following is a transcript which is part of a live recording transmitted via one of the Coptic satellite TV's by an eye-witness: Q. Is the parish priest okay? "Father was present and we guarded him and got him out of there" "The situation in the church and surrounding area has become a military zone" Q. Did anyone attend to the injured? I did see the injured people while we were running away from the scene, but I did not see any ambulances. Police forces are treating people like "chickens". Q. How many security vehicles are in the scene? There are various police cars including a lot of officers, including the chief in command in-person. I saw him personally getting out of his car threatening people and giving orders to his solders to hit civilians. He did give an order that people abandon the church and indicated that no one is allowed in the church. The regime did use tear/smoke bombs and chased the Copts as far as 1/2 km from the church bashing them in streets. Information from Cairo (Egypt) indicates that Egyptian state security broke into St. Mary's church, threw tear bombs, bullets attacking civilian Copts gathered in and around the Church. According to AFP, Hundreds clashed sporadically with police throughout the morning in separate locations in the Talibiya district of Cairo's Giza governorate, with demonstrators throwing stones and Molotov cocktails, and the police responding with tear gas. Around 20 police were injured in the clashes, including Giza's deputy security chief, as well as around 15 demonstrators. The official MENA news agency said more than 3,000 people had taken part in the protests, 93 of whom were arrested. Some of the protesters were led away with blood on their faces, after police hurled rocks at them from a bridge. The dead protester was identified as Makarios Gad Shukr, 19. Father Mina, from a church near the proposed new chapel, said Shukr was shot in the neck during one of the demonstrations in front of the governorate headquarters in the morning. Hundreds of Copts had gathered at the neighbouring church to complain about how they had been treated.
