Pakistan: November 19, 2010. (By Shahid Anwar) On 15th November 2010, The National Commission for Justice and Peace Faisalabad celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Yousaf Hall of Sacred Heart High School in Faisalabad. This ceremony was joined by former and present directors, lawyers, staff, volunteers of NCJP and political and social figures and over 200 people from different walks of life from Faisalabad, Lahore, Jhang, Toba, and Sahiwal. The ceremony was started with cutting ribbon and releasing pigeons by Bishop Joseph Coutts. On this occasion, awards, shields and certificates were awarded to former and present directors, lawyers, staff and volunteers of NCJP as tribute for their untiring efforts for justice and peace. The students of Sacred Heart High School, Saint Albert High School and volunteers of NCJP depicted different advocacy programs of NCJP through skits and tableaus during the ceremony. At this juncture, Bishop Joseph Coutts (Bishop of Faisalabad), Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani (National Director, NCJP), Fr. Nisar Barkat (Diocesan Director, NCJP), Mr. Peter Jacob (Executive Secretary, NCJP), Fr. Khalid Rasheed Asi (Ex. Diocesan Director, NCJP) and Mr. Khalil Tahir Sandhu (M.P.A., Parliamentary Secretary) expressed their views and appreciated the Commission and Bishop John Joseph’s efforts for the promotion and protection of human rights in Pakistan. Bishop Joseph Coutts said, “Peace is the crying need of the era and justice is imperative for the promotion of peace” “I hope Commission will keep on its efforts for the promotion and protection of human rights of the people of Pakistan”, he added. Fr. Nisar Barkat said, “NCJP has been involved in promotion of human right’s education among the people of Pakistan since 25 years, and the purpose of the Commission is to promote peace, democratic values and repeal of discriminatory laws” “Bishop John Joseph wanted a peaceful and unbiased society in which people could develop their relations on the basis of humanity and all people could get equal rights without any discrimination”, he added. Peter Jacob said, “It is imperative to eradicate all discriminatory laws exist in the constitution of Pakistan to build an unprejudiced and democratic state” “We call upon the Government of Pakistan to implement on UN treaties to make country a civilized and developed”, he added
