Montreal: November 16, 2010. (PCP) Bharat Times, a prestigious monthly publication from Montreal, Canada, honored Dr. Anuradha Sharma with WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD at its annual banquette held on September 25th at Eveagreen Reception Hall in Montreal. The award was presented by the honorable Raymonde Folco, a Member of Parliament for Laval, Quebec, Canada. Professor Anuradha Sharma was introduced by Dr. Stephen Gill, a celebrated Indo-Canadian literary figure.
Professor Sharma teaches English Literature at a college in Gujarat, India. She is a literary critic and writes poetry in English and also in Hindi. Her poems, research papers, introductions, book reviews and letters to the editor often appear in publications in India and abroad. Her poems have been translated and published in Romanian language. Lately, she has completed a research project funded by University Grants Commission of India (UGC) and has been selected for Associate ship by IIAS, (Indian Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla, India).
In addition to her teaching and writing, she helps as a volunteer to ameliorate the predicament of women in India, making them aware of their rights to be able to live with dignity. In spite of a fierce opposition from a section of the establishment, she continues to be in touch with women of every age and group to give them also moral help and personal counseling. She is involved with several organizations in different capacities to be in touch with Indian women closely. The management of Bharat Times adores her beliefs that no nation can be called cultured in the true sense and cannot progress materially if the rights of women to survive with dignity are not properly recognized constitutionally and implemented vigorously.
In 2009, Bharat Times honored Dr. Sudhir Arora, a professor of English Literature, a literary critic and creative writer from India. The Award was presented by His Excellency the High Commissioner of India in Ottawa, S.M. Gavai.
