La Cross. Christ Episcopal Church is holding Public discussions on Film " The Passion of the Christ" on March 23. According to press release issued today its said n" Whether you have seen this powerful film or are deciding whether or not to do so, join us for this open and frank dialogue. Men and women from our community will offer their views based on their own training and life experiences. Your views will also be invited in a general discussion. Come with an open heart and mind". According to the programme the Panelists are Mr Mark W. Chavalas, professor of ancient history at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, has taught there since 1989. He received his PhD from UCLA in Ancient Near Eastern History. He has written or edited seven books and numerous articles and reviews, including the co-authored IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament and the co-edited Mesopotamia and the Bible. Mr.Richard Kyte, PhD, is the director of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership. The institute seeks to shed light on the meaning and application of ethical values to our present world through programs that show how traditional values such as hospitality, community, stewardship, and service offer answers to contemporary ethical concerns. Ms Susan T. Hessel is a La Crosse free lance writer who believes we need to find a way to connect with each other rather than build walls between us. Hessel, who is Jewish but speaks only as an individual, saw the film despite reports of anti-Semitism. As she read other accounts of the film, it struck her that "we all see the world through our own eyes, values and experiences. Whether we see truth, inspiration or anti-Semitism in "The Passion of the Christ" is determined by all those factors." Ms Sr. Maria Friedman, FSPA, has degrees in history from Viterbo College (1963) and Marquette University (1969). She has taught at both elementary and high school level, has served on the general administrative board of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and as director of communications for the order. She is currently the North American coordinator for Global Awareness Through Experience. Michael Martin Murphey, country western singer, will comment as a Christian lay person and artist. Roger Grant, PhD, professor of photography and film criticism at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, will give brief introductory remarks about film as a means of communicating physical and spiritual experiences. The Rev. Canon Patrick P. Augustine, Rector, Christ Episcopal Church, Ecumenist, International Peace and Human rights activists, World Mission leader. He has a heart to build bridges among inter-faith communities and to preach the Gospel of Peace.
