PPI in partner with Norwegian government holds seminar on Child Health Program

LARKANA: October 26, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) Under the Pakistan Partnership Initiatives (PPI) with Norwegian Government for the Community Midwives Awareness program, A Development Ceremony for CMA and Maternal Neonatal and Child Health Programme seminar was organized here at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Auditorium Hall of Pediatric Surgery Department near Shaikh Zaid Women Hospital (SZWH) Larkana on Tuesday. The Program was organized by the United Nation Population Fund (UNPFA), presided over by the Sindh Law Minister Mohammed Ayaz Soomro and Minister for Women Development Sindh Tauqir Fatima Bhutto. Addressing on the occasion, Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro said that the present government believes in democracy and striving hard to serve the masses without any discrimination at grass root level. He said the community midwives role is an important for providing health care facilities to the women of remote areas at their door steps. The Minister said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto always preferred to solve the problems of womenfolk on priority basis and the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was to establish separate women Development Ministry, so that the women may be empowered. The Minister congratulated the midwives who completed 18 months training and hoped that they will serve the women in their respective areas, added that now 55 percent of population is female in society and it is our responsibility to protect the rights of women and provide justice and relief without any delay. On the occasion, the Sindh Minister For women Development Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto in her speech urged upon the skilled midwives that they should realize their responsibilities and to serve the ailing ladies specially in delivery cases. She said the selected team should work hard with dedication with modern methods and equipments utilized to save the lives of ailing women. The Minister also said present government working under the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and all out efforts are being made to protect the rights of women in this regard women crises centers were already opened at district level in the province, so that the women problems may be addressed in a proper way. Council General of Norway also spoke on the occasion and said that our country is interested to overcome poverty in Pakistan and to provide health facilities to the poor people of the country in this regard the Norway-Pakistan partnership initiative (NPPI) program is being launched in Larkana. He said, he was very happy from traditional customs of the people of Sindh and urged upon the trained midwives to serve the ailing humanity without any discrimination. Muhammad Ayaz Soomro and Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto distributed the kits to community Midwives who completed their 18 months training and congratulated them. The Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro along with Sindh Women Development Minister Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto visited and distributed clothes among the flood victims at flood relief camp Noor Colony Larkana. On the occasion National Program Manager UNFPA program Dr. Ghulam Shabir Chandio highlighted that deployment of community midwives in 18 month training course for three districts including Larkana, Kamber-Shahdakot and Shikarpur, they have been provided 40 health kits to the trained midwives to initiate their services in the community health services. On the occasion DCO Larkana Abdul Aleem Lashari, Counsellor Development Terje Thodesen Royal Norwegian Embassy, Health facilitator Professor Lee EDO Health Services Dr. Abdul Fattah Bughio, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Laghari District Officer MNCH-WHO Larkana, Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Chandio NPPI-UNFPA, Dr. Asif Aslam of UNICEF also spoke about the importance of NPPI program.
