1600 hundred breast cancer cases in LINAR every year

LARKANA: October 25, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) About 16 hundred cases of Breast Cancer reported every year at Larkana Institute of Nuclear Atomic Radiotherapy (LINAR) and it is the uncontrolled risk factors among female depends on age, mutations of Breast cancer genes (BRCA 1 and BRCA 2), history of previous breast biopsy which showed precancerous condition and Gynecological history. Speaking to the seminar, Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University Dr. Sikander Ali Shaikh said that present moment will be a tremendous step for all of us to take responsibility as ambassador of the awareness program. Experts while delivering their lectures about Awareness of Breast Cancer and campaign to celebrate the month of October, 2010, Doctors spoke high about the topic and they said that if breast cancer found early can usually be treated successfully and There are three pronged approach to screening including mammogram, Clinical breast exam, Breast self-exam. Nearly 80% of women with breast cancer have no family history. Current Situation According to the figures Pakistan with the highest rate of breast cancer for any Asian population, the most frequent malignancy in women, accounts for 38.5% of all female cancer, approximately 35% of Pakistani women will suffer from breast cancer at some point in their lives, Breast cancer accounts for 40,000 deaths per year and roughly 50% of the women with breast cancer in Pakistan die without even seeking any treatment they said. The seminar told that about 85,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed yearly and lack of awareness leading to late detection and risk of being diagnosed up to the age of 25 is 1 in 15,000, while the risk of being diagnosed up to the age of 30 is 1 in 1,900, risk of being diagnosed up to the age of 40 is 1 in 200 and the risk of being diagnosed up to the age of 50 is 1 in 50 participants told. The participants told that the mammography will be conducted by the LINAR and other institutions all over country including X-ray of the breast to detect breast cancer, detection of a breast lump before it can be felt and studies demonstrate that mammograms reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer. The breast cancer is associated with several risk factors, some of which can be modified they said. On the occasion, Director LINAR Khan Mohammed Gorar, Dr. Quraut-ul-Ain, Dr. Irum, Dr. Manzoor Phulpoto, Dr. Farooq Shaikh and others were spoke on the occasion.
