Sindhi Nationalists Rally against Government Policies

LARKANA: September 22, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) On the call of Six Nationalist Party Alliance in Sindh including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Sindh United Party (SUP), Awami Tehreek (AT), Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party (STP), Sindh Save Moment (SSM), Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) observed protest demonstration and rallies were taken out in province against the present government for misuse of funds and improper treatment of flood affectees in various districts as well as expelling the flood affectees from Karachi. On the occasion, a joint and separate protests demos were held by Nationalists groups in different parts of Sindh including Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Benazir Abad (Nawab Shah), Thatta, Sukkur, Khair Pur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Dadu, Qamber-Shahdadkot and Larkana. Hundred and thousand activists violently protested and taken out the rallies here in Larkana led by Muzafar Sandano, Athar Soomro, G.M.Abro, Ali Sher Arijo, Shafique Arijo, Dr. Aamir Mughul, Ahmed Ali Tunio, Munawar Jatoi, Katib Brohi, G.M.Jagirani, Aziz Bhutto and others. The rallies started from Jinnah Bagh and marched around the city including Shaikh Zed colony, Lahori Muhalla, Gajan Pur Chowk, Jealous Bazaar, Bunder Road, Pakistani Chowk, Bakrani Road, Station Road, VIP Road, Royal Chowk, Municipal Stadium Road and reached at Press Club, They blocked roads to protests and chanted slogans against inefficiency of administration and Sindh Government for ‘retreating from its promise of settling flood-affected people in the major cities of Sindh. Speaking on the occasion, they accused the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) of retreating from its promise of accommodating flood-affected people in Karachi, while expelling them from metropolitan city, they announced that their parties would hold joint protest demonstrations across the province on September 26 against the government’s moving back on its promise. The leaders questioned that when hundreds and thousands of people after the Indo-Pak partition and thousands of Afghans affected due to Afghan War could be settle in Karachi, then why the people of Sindh can not be, being the sons of the soil they said. They were of the opinion that the province had experienced the worst disaster in its history while millions of people have been displaced and lost their properties and standing crops. Rejecting the Sindh government’s figures that around seven million people have been affected due to floods, they said the figure has reached 10.15 million, as 18 districts of the province have been completely destroyed. They blamed the government for intentionally hiding facts to cover up its failure of protecting lives and properties of the people. The leadership also announced another meeting of the four parties to be held in Hyderabad on September 26 for discussing the next line of action. They also alleged that not a single penny has been given to the flood-affected people of Sindh as yet.
