LAHORE-Around 400 people made an uproar outside the courtroom of the Lahore High Court Wednesday, impelling the Bench to put off hearing of an alleged blasphemer bail plea.

The Bench of Mr Justice Zafar Pasha Choudhry and Mr Justice Mian Muhammad Jahangir was to hear the bail plea of Hafiz Saeed of village Noukhara, Gujranwala, who was accused by Maulvi Muhammad Ijaz of making some remarks about the parents of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) while delivering Juma sermon and hence injuring religious sentiments of the people. An issue had cropped up from the bail matter whether Section 295(c) PPC (relating to non-bailable offence) under which the FIR was registered against the accused or that the bailable Section 298(a) PPC was applicable to the present case. Before the Court could take up the matter, the courtroom was packed with people while many of them were present outside. The staffers and the guards of the Court made most of them go out. As the Court asked for the appearance of the complainant, a section of the people tried to storm into courtroom while others started chanting loud slogans. The Court put off hearing of the case for one hour and sent for the LHC Registrar who, with the police help made the agitators leave the courtroom. They, however, continued to raise slogans outside. When the Court asked to counsel for the complainant about persons who were disturbing the Court proceedings, Syed Naeemul Hasan Sherazi Advocate stated that he did not know anything about them. In view of this agitation, the Court deemed it appropriate to adjourn further hearing of the matter till October 11 next.
