PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter appeals for donations for flood relief

As we know that heavy flood in Pakistan has affected almost all four provinces with major damages in Khaber Pukhtonkhwa, Punjab and now in Sindh. Today on 23rd Aug 2010 situation in Sindh is becoming worse as flood water entered into major parts of Sindh province and moving toward Arabian sea Assessments National Disaster Risk Management Authority and many other INGOs and local NGOs are conducting assessments, which can be used for developing proper strategies to work for relief and rehabilitation of IDPs. PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter is also keeping an eye on situation and is in link with local partners to identify needs. Introduction of PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter People to People International was founded by its President Dwight D. Eisenhower in September, 1956 the purpose of the People to People International is to enhance international understanding and friendship through educational and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among the peoples of different cultures and diverse cultures. Islamabad Pakistan Chapter is chartered by its international office, and working since 2005, in its Islamabad office. Promoting the same theme through educational and humanitarian activities Experience of working in disasters PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter worked in many villages of earthquake hit area of Sirn and Konsh vallies of District Mansehra and worked with IDPs to promote health and hygiene education and practices to prevent people from diseases that could attack those IDPs camps. Psychosocial health support project was another major intervention to work with IDPs to deal with truma, grief and losses and bring people back to normal life. Emergency relief goods were also distributed among IDPs with specific focus on children and young girls. Kitchen kits, sanitary kits were developed and distributed among young girls for their use and they were also engaged to work with their sibling for promoting healthy practices. Children were engaged in educational and recreational activities through child friendly centers. PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter has also provided kitchen kits and eatable items in the Gojra District in July, 2009. Proposed project On the basis of previous experiences and need of the time, PTP Islamabad Pakistan Chapter wish to work with IDPs in District Sukkur (Sindh) and Muzafar Garh (Punjab) for following interventions, • Promoting health and hygiene education for healthy practices to minimize danger of deadly diseases like Diarrhea, Cholera, scabies etc. • Establishing children friendly centers to conduct educational and entertaining activities to reduce trauma among children and their families • Developing and distributing sanitary kits to distribute among women IDPs to ensure health and hygiene and reduce danger of infections Target population: IDPs camps of two districts (with specific focus on children and women) Requirements • Financial input for establishing Child friendly centers for minimum six months • Financial support for developing and distributing necessary kits • Financial input for Human Resource to work with IDPs • Administrative cost to reach to the people
