Pakistan: August 19, 2010. (By Fr. Inayat Bernard) “ It is a great tragedy for Pakistan and the whole nation is concerned about the victims of this plane crash.” Asia Nasar; a Christian parliamentary secretary for science and technology was talking to the local media after the prayer service which was held at the plane crash spot at Margalla hills near Pakistan’s Capital Islamabad. This inter-faith prayer service was organized by the National Council for Inter-faith Dialogue (NCID) on the 18th of August, 2010.
Mr. Hom Parkash, One of the Hidue leaders, while expressing his views on the Margalla incident expressed his sympathy to the people who have lost their dear ones and prayed for the betterment and the safety of the country that God may keep all citizens safe from both natural and human disasters including the recent severe floods and rains.
Mr. Ghandi Shiwa Ram, the other Hindu leader has also expressed his deeply sorrows over the incident and sympathized with the family who have lost their relatives in the plane. He also appreciated the efforts of the Nation Council Interfaith for organizing a prayer service for the victims and their families.
Mr. Malik Ashraf Awan; the local leader of Islamabad, also appreciated the delegation of NCID from Sialkot and Lahore. He was happy with the efforts of the NCID for having an Interfaith Prayer Service for the affected people. He prayed that God may save us from every danger that is affecting our country. Mushtaq Victor; the former Christian federal minister stressed that the government should make an inquiry and the bereaved families should be compensated.
Professor Muhammad Azeem Farooq; Chairman Christian Muslim Rabita Society Pakistan said that by this prayer service it is obvious that the whole nation is united in this hour of sorrow and show their concern through the prayer in their own respective religious way at this occasion Both moderator Arif M.Siraj of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan and its pastor Amjad Niamat said that it is a tragedy which will never be forgotten. They assured their prayers for the bereaved families. Fr. Bernard Emmanuel; Chairman Mashi Rabita Committee and Mrs Niala Dyal; Chairperson of the NCID said that the prayers will be said for all the plane crash victims and the government was urged to pay the compensation to the families.
Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap the National coordinator of the NCIDE and main organizer said, “The inter-faith gathering was to show solidarity with the affected families and assured their prayers on the spot of the plane crash. The good response of different religions, he continued, is the clear fact that all of us want the stability and peace of the country”.
The relatives of Sapna Munawar, an airhostess who also died in the plane crash were present and thanked the NCID to organize this prayer service by which they were comforted and found peace of heart and mind. The candles were lit for all the 151 dead passengers of the air bleu flight from Karachi to Islamabad. The Muslim, Hindu and Christian participants were from the cities of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Pasrur and Islamabad.
