Mumtaz Bhutto visits protective embankments on flooded river Indus

LARKANA: August 9, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) Chairman Sindh National Front (SNF) Mumtaz Ali Bhutto on Monday visited the protective embankments of River Indus including Aqil Bund, Agani Bund and said that Nusrat Bund is intact because of rich agricultur land of Benazir Bhutto/Zardari, so that there is no any danger of breaches. He said that other dykes are in vulnerable condition, which need to be strengthen in order to protect the lives and property of poor people living at low level areas, added that hundred villages of Larkana district are under the big threat of super flood water. Mumtaz said the present government did not take any precautionary measures to prevent about fllod threat, but failed to in pre information about the situation. He also criticized on the rulers, who are issuing political statements inside their drying rooms to shine their politics with photo session, but they are not practically in the fields to help the poor people in hard time he said. He strongly condemned the foreign trip of top leadership of PPP in a critical situation and said the poor people were facing starvation and devastitation in country. The water level at Indus River at Aqil Bund, Agani Bund and Larkana-Khairpur Bridge is persistently surged on Monday, which was about 10 lac cusec water floodwater inundated several parts of Katcha areas villages from Naudero to Moen-Jo-Daro and several parts of Dadu district. In Sukkur Barrrage the flood tide with 11,46,000 cusecs of water, while the Guddu Barrage touched the end level flood water gauge. The water pressure increased at various locations in Sukkur, Larkana and other parts, Aqil Agahi and Nusrat loop embankments and Abad Bund to Moen-Jo-Daro. In the wake of super flood situation, red high alert was announced at various sensitive embankments and Pak-Army, Police and Rangers was deployed, while the Irrigation departments and administration remained constant at the sensitive places at River Indus and monitored situation. Army deployed to continue its rescue and relief efforts for the affected persons in the flood-hit areas, shifted people to safer places. On the occasion, Law Minister Sindh Mohammed Ayaz Soomro also visited the various locations and sensitive points including Nusrat loop Bund, Aaqil, Bund, Aghani Bund and Abad Mungli Bund at Larkana-Khairpur Indus River here on Monday. He said that the protective Bunds are spread over 54.03 miles from mile 0/0, Nusrat loop Bund to 36/5 of Larkano-Sehwan Bund and their dykes should be intact and protective to face any eventuality. The Minister said Irrigation Department and District Administration should strengthen the protective Bunds on Indus River and ensure the monitoring system regularly. He said the duties should assign to every one monitor the flood situation in their respective areas and to provide facilities to flood victims at relief camps he said. Meanwhile, Khaksar Tehrik, Peoples Party Youth Wing, SZABIST institution established camps to collect relief goods/itmes for the flooded victims here in Larkana for two days at main chowk and familiar places. They urged the community to actively participate in the fundraising and relief collection campaign and help the flood victims.
