Caritas Pakistan Lahore organize Disaster Preparedness Training program

Lahore: August 4, 2010. (By Saima Francis) Caritas Pakistan Lahore organized workshop at St. Paul’s Church Shadbagh Parish. Fifty six women participated in the program from Shadbagh parish. Ms. Samia Francis (Coordinator Women Empowerment program) introduced CPL and Women Empowerment Program and shared the aims and objectives of the program. She added that the status of women in Pakistan is not homogenous because of the interconnection of gender with other forms of exclusion in the society. Patriarchal values embedded in local traditions and culture predetermines the social value of gender. During the program she collected information regarding women needs, their resources and difficulties. Majority of them requested to open training institutions like sewing centre, adult education and computer training courses for the unskilled women. Most of them are facing difficulties to work because their parents and husbands are not allowing them, that is the main reason they are not able to developed them self and their families. Due to this they are becoming poor to poorest day by day. The participants also added that if we become skilled in the coming future then we will develop our self and our families. At the end of the workshop Ms Saima Francis introduced the five steps of (Women Empowerment) which will be the focus to make our Christian young girls skilled and organize them in one group for one area. Rev. Fr. Saleem David thanked the participants and the Caritas Pakistan Lahore team members. In the end tea was served.
