LARKANA: August 3, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has identified that there are eighty (80) sensitive points from Sukkur barrage to Larkana-Khairpur bridge on the right bank and left bank and Ninty (90) sensitive points at Right bank were declared, there is dire need to strengthen vulnerable points by Irrigation Department with heavy machinery, Labour and required Abkalani material. This he said while talking to the Journalsits at Larkana-Khairpur Bridge after the aerial view by Helicopter here on Tuesday.
Chief Minister said the Police and Rangers were put high alert along at all protective embankments/Bunds of River Indus, as well as Pak Army was helping the Civil Administration to meet the flood situation in the area.
He said now there is low pressure of flood water in River Indus because due to heavy breaches at Chashma and Kalabagh the water pressure has minimizes, which was the 11 hudnered cusecs of water pressure he said. He said now the pressure is about 7 to 8 lac cusecs of flood water, which could be easily managed he said.
He said present PPP government was striving hard all precautionary measures and adopting to strengthen the protective embarkements on River Indus from Guddu to Kotri barrage, added that all arrangements for the supervision of flood water at the bridge have been made to face any pressure of flood water coming from Guddu and Sukkur barrages he said.
Chief Minister said the situation is difficult, but all must pray Almighty Allah to overcome the flood problem and he has appealed the people of Katcha areas that they should shift immediately to the safer places and the administration should also provide all the fascilities and food to the displaced people at Camps.
The Chief Minister also said that all the Ministers were assigned duty to supervise flood situation in their respective areas and ensure the monitoring of flood situation in Sukkur and Guddu barrages. Chief Minister said the people of Katcha areas were issued notices to shift to the safer places, there residence in Katcha areas was banned under 144 CR PC.
Replying to another question, he said it was terrorist activity and there is no any target killing, added that investigation regarding the assassination of Mutahida MPA Raza Haider was being carried out by three members’ investigation team under the supervision of D.I.G Sultan Khuwaja. He said that we will try to pursue the leaders of MQM and ANP, will hold dialogue with each other in their mutual interests.
On the occasion provincial Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Agha Siraj Durrani, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, PPP leader Khair Muhammad Shaikh large number of party leaders and workers were present.
Chief Minister visited the newly constructed spurs and sensitive points of Loop Bund, Agani Bund, Abad Mungli Bund in Larkana district. The Chief Minister also directed the Officers of irrigation and NHA to realize their responsibilities and complete the work of newly constructed spurs and strengthen the work on River Indus in Larkana district, to ensure the patrolling on bunds round the clock. He directed DCO Larkana to establish Police pickets on the protective bunds/embarkements on the occasion.
The Chief Minister Sindh also directed DCO Larkana to ensure the availability of revenue staff in relief camps. On the occasion, Chief Engineer Right Bank Agha Aijaz Pathan, briefed the Chief Minister Sindh regarding the arrangements taken by the department to face the flood emergency.
