Christian Workers Movement to observe 53rd anniversary

Mumbai, India: July 30, 2010. (By Cajetan Peter Dsouza) The Christian Workers Movement observes 15th August 2010 as CWM JOSEPH CARDIJN DAY 2010. It is also a red-letter day for the Christian Workers Movement who celebrates their 53rd Anniversary in Mumbai. Started in 1957 by Joseph Cardinal Cardijn with top trade union leaders, Christian Worker Movement began in a low-key. The senior members of the [then] Young Christian Workers later joined the Christian Workers Movement and also helped in expanding the Movement not just in different parishes of Catholic Archdiocese of Bombay but also in other Dioceses of the country. It was only on 24th June 1968; the Christian Workers Movement got the recognition from the Catholic Bishops Conference of India [CBCI] and also an affiliation with the World Movement of Christian Workers [WMCW], Brussels and was recognized as the National Workers Apostolate. The members of the Christian Workers Movement of Archdiocese of Bombay, under the able chaplaincy of Rev. Frs. Lancy Pinto and Cajetan Pinto have reached out to many workers and also have reached out to different workers, besides introducing the Christian Workers Movement in the Dioceses of Ahmedabad, Jabalpur and Vasai and will soon be starting the Christian Workers Movement in other Eastern and Northern Dioceses of the country, in the Dioceses where the Christian Workers Movement does not exist. Based at Joseph Cardijn Technical School, Dadar, Mumbai, the Christian Workers Movement of Archdiocese of Bombay regularly organizes and conducts seminars, training programmes on current and social issues relating workers to create awareness on various topics to create awareness on various topics. Today the Christian Workers Movement has affiliated Diocesan Movements and 10 contact Movements, who meet regularly to understand Gods plan for them in their places of work, church and society. The seminars, training programmes and projects on various workers causes and social issues, bring awareness to all members around the country. In order to empower more workers, the Christian Workers Movement is also spreading their Workers Apostolate in all parishes and Dioceses of the country and are looking for the permission of Diocesan Bishops and support from the Catholic priests and workers to enable us introduce this Workers Apostolate in their respective Dioceses.
