ISLAMABAD, : Pakistani authorities have taken appropriate security measures around the foreign missions in the federal capital and provincial metropolises on the eve of Christmas and New Year to avoid any untoward eventuality. Official in the Ministry of Interior told here Tuesday that strict security measures have been adopted around the foreign missions and churches all over the country following the reports of the secret agencies that terrorists may strike minorities' interests on the eve of Christmas and the New Year. It is to be mentioned here that terrorists attacked churches in Islamabad, Murree, Taxila and Bahawalpur after September 11 attacks on US military and economic installations. Heavy contingents of police and Pakistan Rangers have been deployed at all foreign missions and churches in the federal capital and other cities besides sensitive place. The police patrolling has also been increased while the other law enforcing agencies and Rangers have been put on high alert. The officials of law enforcing agencies are also checking vehicles at all entry and exit points of the big cities. Pakistan being a close ally of the United States in ongoing war against terror is facing security problem as number of incidents of terrorism have occurred which were blamed on Osama bin Ladin's al-Qaeda network. Last week President Pervez Musharraf escaped unhurt in an attempt on his life when a bomb planted at bridge in downtown Rawalpindi exploded just minute after his convoy passed. The Interior Ministry has warned the general public to remain vigilant and check the movements of suspicious individuals and belongings.
