Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari has traditionally greeted Sikh pilgrims, Hindus and other minorities on the occasion of Christmas, Holi and now Baisakh
Pakistan: July 14, 2010. (PCP) Here is letter of one of Pakistan Christian Post reader from Faisalabad who writes about situation of fear among Christians in city. There are more than one million Christians in Faisalabad:
Sir,
Nearly two weeks back Rashid Emanuel and his brother were arrested for an alleged blasphemy against the prophet of Islam. The background being a personal enmity (on the basis of money) with a Muslim boy who worked for their NGO. A hand written pamphlet of three pages containing blasphemous statements was distributed to the mosques with the name, cell no. and address of Mr.Rashid (as the author).
A Christian police officer told my father that the handwriting of that pamphlet didn't match Mr.Rashid's and there are high chances of his release (God willingly, lets continue praying for them)
On Saturday evening, we were alarmed to be careful as protests were being held by the Muslims. The catholic church was attacked that evening with stones. News of all sorts were coming from everywhere. Some also said the muslims have gathered 1 lakh people to attack Daudnagar ( let's not forget this is possible)
Sunday morning started with Molvis (Muslim Immam) calling people for Jihad against the Christians in loud speaker. That caused more alarm. The news was that there will be two processions, one at 7am and the other (bigger one) at 3pm. The 7am procession didn't happen. The 3pm procession was actually against the Data Darbar bombings. The procession that did take place against the blasphemy case was a smaller one (than we had hoped) and we are told that the police and some of our religious leaders talked with them and they assured of a peaceful protest.
On Monday God blessed us with lots of rain and we just thanked Him for His infinite mercy on us which is all of grace and we don't deserve it. I don't think they didn't even want to attack our area, I think they couldn't because there was enough security and brothers from nearby villages also came with all the weapons they had for our help. I was reminded of God's absolute power to restrain evil in a man's heart."Jehovah hath made everything for its own end; Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil." Prov 16:4 and "The LORD of hosts has sworn saying, "Surely, just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have planned so it will stand" Isiah 14:24. We must thank Him for His power over the actions of men and trust in Him alone to be our deliverer while using human resources against such a situation.
We are thankful for the prayers of our brothers and sisters from all over Pakistan and abroad and we are also thankful for the love we share in Christ. Peace has been restored but still we should all continue to thank Him and call Him to protect His people everywhere in the world.
