Mehran Welfare Trust organizes workshop on HIV/Aids

LARKANA: July 1, 2010. (By Nazir Siyal) Mehran Welfare Trust (MWT) Larkana sponsored by the Sindh Aids Control Program (SACP) organized one day workshop with the media personnel’s on current situation of HIV/Aids here at Larkana Press Club on Wednesday. The fascilitators of workshop on the occasion, highlighted that media is key role in the awareness of society about HIV/Aids, and raise voice and to motivate community on this sensitive issue for the rehabilitation of primary counseling and preventions. In Pakistan, there are 6000 HIV/Aids cases registered, while 50 percent suggested majoirity in Sindh and Larkana is on the top priority in IDUs and MSW/HSW. They collectively agreed that we all are responsible of society illnesses and it is our responsibility to play our role practically to take our efforts to root out HIV/Aids. There are 60 registered patients at CMC hospitalLarkana while there is large number of HIV/Aids affected patients. In Paksitan, a roughly cases could be 80 thousand lowest and higher figure is 0.2 million, the world wide data is about 40 million. National Aids Control Sindh has registered 6000 cases upto Jan 2010, which is an alarming situation in sindh, as per data in Sindh 35 to 40 thousand people are affected due to the HIV/Aids. NICP had conducted survey and told that in in 2008, the Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana the IDUs 30 percent was reported and than reduced in Karachi by 22 percent because of mobile sex workers, while in Hyderabd increaserd by 30 percent and no data was collected in Sukkur. While in 2008 Larkana reported 27. 6 percent increase and MSW proportion in Sindh 3.6 percent during the 2007 and Larkana was rise on 2008 regarding the HSW. On the occasion, 200 Heejras were observed by different behaviours and blood tests, screenings. In Larkana, about 65 commercial sex workers at brothel, they fears that their business will be affected due to use of condomns and other measures, whie in Madarsahs, there were no any services possible due to the religious groups. Speakers also otld that the Male Sex Workers from Larkana, Dadu, Shikarpur and other parts of districts was reported and vulnerability in the brothels by use of drugs, addiction and others activities were reported in 2008. Sindh Aids Control department and service providers were working for the AIDs/HIV and prevention regarding the the use of disposable syringes, barbour shops and others. They otld that the Male Sex Workers from Larkana, Dadu, Shikarpur and other parts of districts was high and vulnerability in the brothels, use of drugs, addiction and others activities were reported in 2008. Sindh Aids Control department and service providers were working for the AIDs/HIV and prevention regarding the the use of disposable syringes, Barbour shops and others. UNICEF has initiated the prevention of parents to child transmission (PPTCT) Centers in Karachi and Larkana they told. On the occasion, the Chairman MWT, Mohammed Panjal Sangi, Focal person of Sindh Aids Control Prgoram Dr. Shabir Ahemd Shaikh, STIs physician Dr. Riaz Hussain, HIV treatment and care center incharge Dr. Hola Ram, social welfare officer and senior media persons Nazir Siyal, Javed Shah, Imtiaz Ali Gorar, Abdul Jabbar Baloch, Naveed Larik, Asif Ali Chandio, Mushtaq Tunio and others were present.
