LARKANA/GARHI KHUDA BUX: June 21, 2010. (Nazir Siyal) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday said that the Pakistan’s struggle is for his own survival and soveriegnty not for the US battle, as a member of the international community follow the international rules but will not follow the dictations of any one. He was talking to newsmen after paying his respects at the mausoleum of Benazir Bhutto graveyard in Garhi Khuda Bux.
The Prime Minister Mr. Gilani said that the killers of Benazir Bhutto will not be spared and will be brought to justice and we are fighting war of people for the country's integrity and the government was moving forward in investigation in light of UN report.
Prime minister responding to a question, said whether there was any pressure on Pakistan regarding the multi billion dollar Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline projects, the Premier said if the US put in place any restriction on Iran the same would be reviewed in the light of international laws.
Replying a question on Kalabagh dam scheme, Gilani said the project has been contentious since 1985 adding that he was not personally opposed to the disputed project but the issue should resolved with consensus among the provinces.
He said in the recent debate in the National Assembly some members of the former ruling party were playing to the gallery as they could have built the dam while they were in power. He said law and order is a provincial subject and could be resolved through negotiations with allies.
Prime Minister said we are pursuing the policies of reconciliation and taking all institutions on board under the v ision of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who believed in a policy of consensus and wanted resolution of all such matters through reconciliation, added that the Benazir Bhutto had a vision to strengthen democracy, constitution and the media and gave a call for long march for restoration of judiciary. He said he too was arrested by the authorities.
Gilani said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was the symbol of the federation and a chain of all the four provinces. She was not only leader of Sindh or Pakistan but a great leader of the world. He said vision of Benazir Bhutto was same as of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the rule of law, freedom of press and democracy in its real spirit in country. He said that the dictatorship had ended, 1973 constitution, that restored and 18th constitutional amendment was passed by the parliament unanimously.
To another question, Prime Minister said it came up during talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh both leaders agreed that war is not a resolution to the issues. The peoples of both the countries face a number of other problems, such as, poverty, inflation, unemployment and terrorism. Both countries should pursue dialogue which was the only best solution for resolving all issues. Pakistan wants to have good relations with the neighbouring country, he stated.
On the NFC award, he said it was a consensus award and said it would go a long way in empowering the provinces.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani paid visit to the grave of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, on the eve of her 57th birth anniversary, he also offered Fateha and placed a floral wreath, while Prime Minister also visited the grave of founder of pakistan peoples party Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Shaheed Shahnawaz Bhutto offered fateha and laid floral wreaths.
Prime Minister was was accompanied by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Ministers Syed Naveed Qamar and Raja Pervez Ashraf, provincial ministers, Pakistan’s Ambassador to UAE Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, and leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party.
