Vision to make Kinnaird College at the level of Oxford and Harvard: Kinnaird College’s Principal Dr. Bernadette L. Dean What are your basic studies and from where? Dr. Bernadette Louis Dean said while talking in the the Personality forum of the Catholic TV and the Monthly English Christian View that she studied in St. Lawrence’s High School, Karachi and then St. Joseph’s and Karachi university and Alberta USA studies. As the first catholic principal, “ I think it is good that we have no distinction and we should get the good and not difference and any capable people who can do it. In Pakistan we are already very few. For progress no sect, creed or religion should be taken into account but the capability is the one to be cared for. What did you do for the college? In this institution the registers are well kept and admissions are in progress. We have semester system, HR staff is established and their record is kept and in general office also will be set up. Along with the Institution’s building, academic is very much stressed. It should be a good standard .We suggest to have I Com because the students would like to go to the accounts department. In the Education department education degree is going to be started. One year B Ed. does not produce the good quality education. We want to give to the teachers which will be good for the society. Double degree will be the best. In post graduates, the citizenship education is priority. The good citizens are not born and I talk about the nation at large and the community. Either on district or global village level, they are citizens. The citizenship is compulsory. Community service learning when someone is professional not only to help the poor with money but through their knowledge they can help. In the environment department they can make filter or water Work hard to achieve something is essential. When you get the admission If you can afford du eot resources then I want to say come and you can become different person. What I asked from the faculty is not beyond their capacity what they have to do. I come here from 08.30.a.m.and leave the college at 05.00 p.m I am not asking what I am not doing myself but they need to be told to give full time to the college in their duty hours. What is the key to success? In life education is very important. The family and the parents should support and in the society they appreciate the qualities and they should give way to make a progress. First the administrative knowledge of the system is important. Second is to have the work with the people and third is to have the team members and fourth is to be firm in their difficulty is import. We need to affirm also. In view of challenges there are opportunities. The girls are considered to be on priority. The opportunities are given to them to build up confidence so that they can work in the same level on the gender basis .In KC the students are good and potential and we need to explore and increase so that they can be good for family and society .They have to make a difference. In difficulty the Christian are to be twice good. All Christians have to be double to be successful. We should not look for favor we should stress on good education and we provide them opportunities. We have many colleges and schools in which we need to have the education for every Christian. They should not only be primary but they should be BA in the knowledge oriented society. They should be given the opportunities. All opportunities are to be available. One needs to explore what are their capabilities. There is said to be bribe in your college at the time of admissions. How do you respond to it? There is no bribe in our college and there is nothing in my knowledge. Self finance system is there and we have told the students. The students who are not talented, they pay and make a pledge that they will make an effort to do their best. But the self finance system is also abolished now. There was no bribe in our college I can give you in writing. What about the medical assistance to the staff? Medical facility are not there. It is very important .The Board Of Governors is not yet decided. The lower staff’s salary is increased and chaukikar ‘s salary is RS. 10,000/- Is the Old age benefit given to the staff? Old age benefit is given to the faculties and not others. The BOG is still to decide. They are supposed to get all these facilities. There has to be attractive salary because so much is the dearness. What are your priorities in future? I have given 10 point plan to the BOG for Academic’s major four departments. It is to be implemented one by one so that the opportunities will be given. The Curriculum should be of an international level. Be it Oxford or Harvard. The research is also given priority. High quality research cell and office is given . Proposal writing and they will be given the support. Are the local funds raising efforts being made? Fund raising can be done and endowment fund is going on well. For scholarships and we need not to beg from the others. For students they can give scholarship in their family’s name. Position holders of three will be given full scholarship. Why are the Christians not given chance in their own institutions? If they have the merit and they do not have resources they are given chance in our college. Graduate concessions are given to the deserving students. Teaching assistants in administration and research are being encouraged. The Christian students have to work hard and if we give free education to them, they will not learn and we will also feel bad. Thus on our part we take care of their finances and provide scholarships while on their part they have to work hard. They should do the work and grow their opportunities. Dr. Mira Pheilbus and KC are joined together. How do you responds? Dr.Mira Pheilbus has done a lot for the uplift and progress of the college in last 35 years. She deserves our appreciation and gratitude. However the change is good and these institutions keep growing with the constant change. In Karachi I suggested to the Diocesan Education Board that a principal should be transferred from one institution to another and they will try hard to give their best to the educational institutions. What you asked to do that is they have to do. I come here form 09.00.p.m.to 05.00p/.m I am not asking what I am not doing but they like to be told but go on as they wish.
