(PCP) Mr. Abdul Hamid Khan, Chairman of Balawaristan National Front (BNF) have written an appeal to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon for direct support to people of Hunza-Attaabad people in recent lake rising water flood crisis in Majini mahla, Gilgit, Balawaristan (Pakistan Occupied Gilgit Baltistan). Here is letter of Mr. Hamid Khan to UNO Date: 23rd May 2010 His Excellency Mr. Ban-Ki-Moon Secretary General UNO New York Give Aid directly to the People of Attabad, Hunza The people of Gilgit Baltistan are witnessing the desperate people of Attabad, Hunza and the apathy of Pakistani occupying regime towards the human beings. This was the criminal negligence of government of Pakistan towards Attabad, Hunza's newly born natural lake affected people. The colonial master of Pakistan and it’s Military intentionally let the lake to grow and eliminate the whole area up to Shhenaki Kohistan, otherwise a local contractor could have burst the lake much earlier, if he had been given contract since January 2010, at the occasion when mountain slide blocked River Hunza at Attabad. This is very agonising situation for the people of this land as they see their life time saving in land, agriculture, livestock & houses diminishing daily in front of their hopeless eyes and colonial masters do nothing to save them. This human made disaster is affecting their courage and fear of exploding of that vast water reserve is mentally very terrorising for them. This is not first time; citing the bitter experience of 2005 in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) earthquake where misuse and abuse of billions of aid by Monstrous Military and Govt. of Pakistan & not to forget the plight of poor women in the hands of inhuman Military and civil Govt. officials, result of which is still seen in brothels of Pakistan. This Military Mafia led many Kashimiri girls into forced prostitution instead of helping the poor souls. The much publicized Benazir Langar (a traditional kitchen for beggars in Pakistan) on the name of Late Benazir, and whatever money is planned for spending on kitchen has not been released from Benazir Bank account, hence it is just their political showoff by Pakistani govt. to make fool the world community, that they are helping, but its null and nonexistent. The aim of Langar is actually to disgrace the tradition of local people and to seek sympathy from international community. Neither the people of Hunza or Gilgit Baltistan are needed any alms on the name of a dead person like Benazir nor she has donated anything personally for this area and its population in her life time. We are afraid that government of Pakistan will use the misery of this region to seek monetary help from International community and most of that aid will go in to the pockets of Pakistan Amry, then Zardari group and finally their puppets in the area thus nothing will be given to the suffering people. We humbly request to the international community to give aid directly to the effected people not through the corrupt Disaster Management Mafia of Pakistan Military and civil regime, if the world community really wants to help the people. The way aid is distributed by the authorities, is corrupt and most needy people are always deprived. The world has experienced it once in POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) in 2005 when earthquik hit that area. The aid what was given by the world community, never been reached to the effected person, but widely used for building concreat Army Camps and barracks throughout PoK. By keeping in mind the past experience and culture of Pakistan Army and Civil administration, world community should help the effected people directly. I thank Mr. Ban-ki-Moon Secretary General of UN, for sending an expert for the assessment of the devastating water blockade in Hunza and its worst impact on the other areas along the river of Hunza, Gilgit and then finally Indus. I appeal to the United nations and Environmentalists to look into the matter of 4000 blasts done in Gindayi, Yasen of Gilgit and thousand other areas by Chinese mining companies which has resulted in this melting of great glaciers and huge mountain sliding in this area which has completely disturbed the natural balance and ecosystem of this part of the world. When local people protested against these blasts of Chinese mining companies , instead of hearing them, Pakistani occupying regime arrested them , tortured them, poisoned them and those 22 natives of Yasen, Gindaye are still being trialed for manifesting against the crime done to their motherland. These grave errors and crimes done in Pakistan Occupied Gilgit Baltistan are worse than Nuclear weapons, which only eradicate the humanity, while these blasts exploded the mountains and changed the climate of this beautiful land at dangerous level. The 2000 leases for mining of precious metals have been given to foreign companies like Pakistani and Chinese by Pakistani colonial power, which themselves do not have any right on this land, it is totally illegal. Those foreign companies seem to be totally ignorant on environmental ill- consequences to this area and its neighboring world. I request to the UN and environmental experts to intervene and take up it seriously against human interference in natural phenomenon as an urgent issue. A live example of this abuse is the recently formation of Attabad, Hunza water dam, which has caused grave consequences to the existence of the whole region. The impact as climate change, which the region is witnessing in the shape of mountain sliding and heavy rain due to the newly born natural water dam of only 25 KM long, as a result of use of toxic material in the thousand blasting by Chinese and Pakistani companies to explore the mines on high altitude mountains. If 7 mega dams of more than 100 KM each long will be built in this region as per Pakistani plan, then not only the geography and weather of Gilgit Baltistan but the whole Central Asia up to Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and even India and beyond South Asia will be completely changed.
