HYDERABAD/JAMSHORO: May 13, 2010. (Sameer Siyal reports for PCP) The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that neither MQM nor PPP would fight each others but to continue serving the province and its people without any discrimination. This he said while talking to the Journalists at Village Siddique Shoro near Kotri, District Jamshoro, where he arrived to offer fateha on sad demise of ex-MPA Haji Siddique Shoro today. After offering condolence with MPA Dr. Sikandar Ali Shoro (grand son) and Khuda Dino Shoro (son) of deceased Mohammad Siddique Shoro, the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah lauded the services of late Mohammad Siddique Shoro that he rendered for the welfare of common man and said that he was his and companion of PPP since many decades. He stands with party even in difficult time, he added. Responding the question about restoration of old status of Hyderabad District with reference to Prime Minister’s statement, the Sindh Chief Minister said that Prime Minister came to Karachi and attended the convention of PPP leaders / workers of Hyderabad Division where local leaders of Hyderabad sought for restoration of old status of Hyderabad district. He said that though Prime Minister in his speech admitted that bifurcation made by Mushraf’s regime was not justified but simultaneously he made it clear that we to bring Hyderabad into original position with the consultation of our coalition partners but unfortunately the second part of his statement regarding consultation with coalition partners was not considered before reaction. He said that on the same day even before reaction, the spokesman of Prime Minister clarified about Prime Minister’s statement which was on the record. Besides, he himself and Senior Sindh Minister Pir Mazharul Haq contacted with the MQM Rabta Committee, Sindh Governor and Dr. Farooque Sattar and clarified the situation. However, the Sindh Chief Minister made it clear that neither MQM nor PPP would fight each others but to continue serving to the people of Sindh. He said that in addition to Hyderabad all matters would be resolved with mutual understanding.
Responding another question about imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT), the Sindh Chief Minister said that VAT had been discussed during the meetings held for deciding NFC Award. He said that it was conceded in current NFC Award that GST on services was provincial subject and it to be collected by them. He said that though federal government had some reservations on its collection on its pretext that provinces didn’t have any capacity for collection but all three provinces strict on their stand for collecting GST on services and finally it was agreed in Lahore meeting along with other multiple factors of NFC Award. He said that now we have established Sindh Board of Revenue (SBOR) on the pattern Federal Board of Revenue to collect GST tax. He said that revenue generation, poverty, density of population and GST on services was the major demand of the provinces which conceded in NFC Award. He said that it was also approved that 5% of GST collection charges would be paid to Sindh as it was collecting major share of GST. He added that it was not minor but big matter of revenue of Sindh in billions of rupees mean for welfare of common man and we would not get it affected. He said that our negotiations with the federal government were in progress and we also have submitted our suggestions and our point of view on GST to the President and Prime Minister in this regard. To another question, the Sindh Chief Minister ruled out the impression that IMF is putting pressures on the government about imposition of VAT.
Later talking with the notables, the Sindh Chief Minister asked the officers concerned and public representatives of District Jamshoro to submit their proposal for establishing trauma centre on Indus Highway in between Jamshoro and Sehwan Sharif so that it can be implemented and prompt medical aid could be ensured to injuries of accidents.
The Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durani, Sindh Minister for Revenue Mehtab Dahar, Sindh Minister for Minority Affairs Mohan Lal Kohistani, ex-Zila Nazim Jamshoro Malik Asad Sikandar, DCO Jamshoro Samiuddin Siddiqui and other public representatives and officers were accompanied Sindh Chief Minister. Later, the Sindh Chief Minister also visited the house of Kamran Baloch leader of Sindh Peoples Students Federation (SPSF) at Kotri and offered fateha on sad demise of his father.
