National Scientific Symposium at Chandka Medical College

LARKANA: March 31, 2010. (Nazir Siyal reports for PCP) 10th Chandka Medical College (CMC) Larkana and 2nd SMBBMU National Scientific Symposium was concluded here in Larkana on Wednesday. The Chief Guest of the scientific symposium was the Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University Professor Sikander Ali Shaikh, while addressing the concluding sessions; he said this symposium will promote the health activities for encouraging research and medical education awareness by delivering scientific lectures by the various experts from four conrners of the country. He said the state of art scientific sessions and health events will play its vital role in the health delivery system. On the occasion, the participants from different cities including Larkana, Sukkur and Gambat, Karachi, Sukkur, Jamshoro and other parts of country delievered their state of art 175 lectures in the different sessions in two days from March 30th and 31st. Speaking on the different themes, the role of government and NGOs in health delievery system, participants including Riaz Hussains of PPHI Dr. Tanveer Hussain SAVE the Children, Dr. Manzoor Khuharo, WHO representative in Pakistan, presented facts and figures and glimpse on ground realities after the penal discussion made recommendations including overall health budget of country should be significantly raised upto four percent GDP. Presently, 90 percent of health budget is being spent on curative health care and only 10 percent utilized on preventive side. There fore this disparity will be removed and appropriate budget should be allocated for both curative and health preventive services they said. It was also recommended that the provincial level conference should be organized on the health care delivery systems with all stake holders should be involved to evolve a better strategy suitable for the need of our people. They also recommended the Public Private Partnership (PPP) should be introduced in health care delivery system. More incentives should be given to the Doctors and concerned. Task oriented health managers be employed to improve the health system. In the end of the symposium, four scientific sessions were held among the state of art lectures including nasal endoscope, sinus surgery, present and future delivered by professor Mohammed Saleem Arfani, Professor and Chairman ENT department DOW University of Health Scicneces Karachi, highlighted the advanced surgical procedures on the occasion. In second lecture, Gynocological deseases were discussed in details. In this session 40 experts were trained in the Fistula repair and 1590 operations were discussed and among the 90 percent was success rate. On the occasion, state of art lectures on management of infections in bone-marrow transplant, Nasal endoscope sinus surgery, euro genital Fistula, role of simulation in training in minimal access surgery and recent advances in lachrymal duct drainage system were presented in the two days symposium. While, there were also pre-symposium workshops’ the topics were Chronic Villous Sampling, management of Headache, management of anger and Glaucoma along with panel discussions on theme as well as 175 free papers on General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Medicine Cardiology, Neurology, Chest diseases, Psychiatry, Gyne-Obs and Basic pediatrics and Community medicines were also presented by the experts across the country.
