Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari has traditionally greeted Sikh pilgrims, Hindus and other minorities on the occasion of Christmas, Holi and now Baisakh
Washington DC: March 30, 2010. (PCP) Spring has returned. There will soon be cherry blossom festival in the nation's capital, Washington DC.
But in a distant part of the world, more than a thousand political activists for peace, justice and liberty have not returned home and their fate is still uncertain as Pakistan military that is running the affairs in Occupied Balochistan is keeping mum, despite elections more than two years ago. Many cases of Forced and Involutary Disapperances in Balochistan merit to be declared prisoners of conscience by Amnesty International:
Norwegian-Baloch national Ehsan Arjemandi was forcefully abducted by the Miitary Intelligence on August 7, 2009 in Lasbella, Occupied Balochistan, has not been freed yet from a Pakistani military torture cell.
Likewise, the fate of a prominent leader of the Baloch Students Organization [Azad] Zakir Majeed who was forcefully disappeared from Mastung on June 8, 2009 is unknown. Dr. Deen Mohammed Baloch, a member of the central committee of the Baloch National Movement was involuntarily disappeared from Ornach on June 28, 2009. Earlier on February 13, 2009 Jalil Reki a central leader of the Baloch Republican Party was forcefully disappeared from Quetta and his whereabouts are unknown.
According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, "Violations of human rights in Balochistan are widespread and harrowing. Regrettably, the state has not addressed these complaints and themedia, either under pressure or on account of its own failings, has been unable to probe and report the dreadful reality on the ground. The most hair-raising are the continuing incidents of enforced disappearances. In addition to a large number of cases already taken up by HRCP, the Commission documented several new cases during this mission to Balochistan. This appears to be only the tip of the iceberg as a large number of families do not have access to any forum of protest or redress."
The HRCP report clearly stated Pakistan military is still running the show in Balochistan. Islamabad has itself admitted nearly one thousand Baloch are still missing.
The American Friends of Balochistan, U.S.A., is of the considered view that if at all the Baloch in Occupied Balochistan have violated any Pakistani laws they must be produced and tried before a Pakistani court.
To bring these issues to the attention of the U.S. public, the American Friends of Balochistan is organizing a talk on Friday April 16, from 12 noon to 2 pm at the DC Cafe on P and 21st Street Northwest Washington DC.
Gyros and falafil lunch will be provided.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,

PS: The American Friends of Balochistan draws its political inspiration from legendary Baloch leader and Baba-i-Azadi -- founder of the liberation movement --, Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri. It is allied with the liberation struggle of the Baloch National Front and considers the Three Shining Stars of Balochistan -- Mir Hyrbyair Marri, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti and Dr. Allah Nazar baloch -- as the genune representatives of the Baloch people.
