Karachi: March 29, 2010. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said that Pakistani Christians will welcome 18th amendment in constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan if amendments legislated by Zia-ul-Haq and Parvez Musharraf regimes are repealed in draft resolution of Constitutional Reform Committee of National Assembly of Pakistan. The Hadood Ordinance of General Zia-Ul-Haq enforced Sharia law in Pakistan and were 8th amendment made it part of constitution which turned religious minorities to be second class citizens of Pakistan. The blasphemy law was also part of Sharia law endorsed through amendment in constitution. Musharraf regime imposed Joint Electorate on Christians and snatched dierect voting right of Christians to elect their representation with an ordinance. Nawaz Sharif regime legislated death penalty on blasphemy charges to champion an Islamic political group fundamental Islamic vote bank in Punjab and to honor his political father Zia-Ul-Haq who introduced him in political arena of Pakistan. There is uproar of constitutional reforms in Pakistan to revival of constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973, with 18th amendment drafted by Constitutional Reform Committee but it is not clear that committee is considering to repeal 17th amendment or others also. Nazir S Bhatti said “ Repeal every article in constitution which turns Christians to be second class citizen as blasphemy law, law of evidence and compensation, Hadood Ordinance and article 2 of constitution unless 18th amendment will be a power game among Muslim leaders” “Christians are not concerned if you change name of NWFP as Puktunkhawa or name of Sindh as Sindudesh but we demand our basic equal rights back in Pakistan which is only possible that blasphemy laws and other Islamic laws may be stopped implemented on Christians but Islamic laws may be rest on Muslims if they want” added Nazir Bhatti
