Unrest in Sindh jails, one inmate killed 15 injured in clashes with police

LARKANA: March 27, 2010. (Nazir Siyal reports for PCP) Central Jail Police search operation in Larkana, Sukkur and Khairpur, scuffle between Khairpur Jail police and prisoners one inmate killed and 15 injured after heavy police shelling and firing in retaliation of prisoners in the Central Jail Khiarpur here on Friday. According to reports clash was started after search operation by Khiarpur Central Jail police and prisnors, which were repeated after Sukkur search operation, where hundereds of cell phone, knives and other weapons recovered in the Central Jail Sukkur. While in, Khairpur Central Jail clash erupted among the police and inmates during search operation and one person Allah Wassayo Phulpoto killed and various injured said the sources. On the occasion, Phullpoto community after the killing Phulpoto, they observed protest demonstration here in Khairpur and protest by the Jail inmates in Khairpur was continue till the filling of this report. Whereas, Jail inmates of Larkana were continue protesting for couple of days and now the prisoners have put their conditions before the Jail administration. As per details, large number of Central Jail inmates continued their protest against Jail administration for non provision of facilities according to the Jail manual including food and water, health facilities and load shedding here on Friday. The protesting prisoners climbed to the roof of barracks and observed protest demonstration against the Deputy Jail Superintendent Aurangzeb Kango, Dr Aijaz Ali Tunio on depriving prisoners from their basic facilties according to the jail manuals. On Friday, some under trial prisoners (UTP) and others including Ghulam Rasool Chandio, Rahjb Chandio, Masood Chandio allegedly said the jail administration brutally tortured and made hostage prisoner among Ghualam Rasool when he went for getting food. Later, they also made hostage some police personals and told that the Jail administration was not providing them basic facilities. It is pertinent to be mentioned here that few days before prisoners went to strike and made six police personals hostage including Suhabat Jagirani, Ali Mohammed and others, they demanded to fulfill their demands including basic facilities, to end artificial load shedding by jail administration and bringing them to the court for hearings they said.The scuffles between the Jail police and prisoners of Central Jail is continuing for couple of days and now the prisoners have put their conditions before the Jail administration that they will hold talks with District Coordination Officer (DCO) Larkana or Member Provincial Assembly Haji Munwer Ali Abbasi to end their strike, otherwise they will not talk to other leader or officials and continue their protest they said.
