On behalf of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC and 20 million Pakistani Christians, I strongly condemn killing of Christians in Egypt and demand justice for 8 Coptic Christians gunned down on January 6, 2010, by Muslims during New Year prayers in town of Nag Hammadi. We also assure our Coptic brothers that Pakistani Christians have grave concern on their persecution in Egypt and we will keep on raising voice against such atrocities on our national and international forums.
Gentlemen, the rising Islamic extremism in Islamic countries have created feeling of insecurity among religious minorities on increasing incident of violence, murder and discrimination. The 2009, was year of persecution of Christians in Muslim states Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Nigeria, Malaysia and Pakistan.
The year 2008-2009, shall be ever remembered as “Genocide of Christians in Pakistan” when Muslim mobs attacked Churches, destroyed hundreds of homes, burnt alive Christians women and children, gunned down innocent young adults, gang raped Christian girls and enforced conversion for marriages. The arrests of Christians under blasphemy law and sentences to life imprisonments were doubled comparing to previous years in Pakistan.
I must present incident of rape and murder of one 12 years old Christian girl Shazia Bashir in city of Lahore who was employed as maid in home of an influential Muslim Mohammad Naeem Choudry, former President of Lahore High Court Bar Association. Mohammad Naeem established links in national political circles when he led rallies to reinstate Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Choudry on intimation of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party. On January 21, 2010, Mohammad Naeem Choudry brings her housemaid Shazia Bashir to Jinnah Hospital Lahore where she is pronounced dead. Mohammad Naeem Choudry reaches same evening to home of Shazia Bashir with one Muslim Brigadier of Pakistan Army and tells her parents that their daughter is dead. In presence of Pakistan Army officer he offers sum of Rupees 20 Thousand about 2000 US dollars to poor parents of Shazia and threaten them to shut their mouth. He claims that no one can harm him in Pakistan and it is in best interest of parents of Shazia Bashir to seal their lips. The poor parents of Shazia refused offer of Mohammad Naeem and rush to hospital with local Christian leaders. The doctor on duty informs “Rape-Murder” cause of death and hands over dead body of Shazia to her father Bashir Masih with promise to issue cause of death certificate next day. When local area Christian know about rape and murder of 12 year old girl by one lawyer, they approach area police station to lodge report but it is denied. The Christian take dead body of Shazia in front of Punjab Assembly Building in Lahore and protest for registration of case against Mohammad Naeem. The electronic media breaks story of rape of 12 years old girl on which Punjab government officials assure of justice to protestors and police takes dead body in possession for post- mortem. On January 23, 2010, Mian Shahbaz Shrif, Chief Minister of Punjab government and Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities visit home of Shazia Bashir and announce Rupees 5 lacks from Federal Government and 5 lacks from Punjab government as compensation and promise to ensure justice. On January 25, 2010, Defense Police Station registers rape-murder case against Mohammad Naeem and arrests him. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif orders formation of three member medical board which examines dead body of Shazia and announces same evening that she was not raped. The Jinnah Hospital Lahore also announces 9 member medical board to find cause of death and declares that death of Shazia Bashir was due to skin infection not torture and rape. An influential Muslim killer and child molester Mohammad Naeem advocate walks free from court on grounds of medical reports which were prepared on direction of Chief Minister of Punjab and Federal Minority Minister because killer launched mass rallies of lawyers when President Musharaf deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudry. The Punjab government run by Pakistan Muslim League Mawaz and Federal Government led by Pakistan Peoples Party saved a Muslim culprit and denied justice to 12 years old Christian victim of rape and murder.
A recent incident of March 5, 2010, is mockery to justice when district and session judge Lahore awards 25 years imprisonment to Christian couple on charges of touching Holy Quran with unwashed hands. The wife is sent to jail hundreds of mile away to city of Multan and husband to Lahore jail leaving behind their minor children in city of Kasur.
On February 24, 2010, Muslim mob attacks Christian colony in Karachi on incident of touching fruit during purchase from Muslim vendor in Karachi. The hundreds of Muslims burn down Christian shops, cars and motorbikes. The Muslim mob equipped with fire arms vandalizes churches and injures Christians but North Nazimanbad Police arrests 40 Christians while Muslim attackers are walking free and threatening Christians.
A Christian youth is sentenced to life in prison on accusation of blasphemy in Fasialabad in month of February 2010, and there are dozens of cases in January-February 2010, when Christian homes are set on fire, Christian properties are snatched by force and Muslim parliamentarians have occupied valuable agricultural lands of Christians.
The Christians are son of soil and played positive role in formation of Pakistan. They voted in favor of Pakistan during 1931-1932 Round Table Conference in London by British Colonial rulers in sub-continent of India. The Christian voted for Pakistan before Boundary Commission and province of Punjab fell in lot of Pakistan but now Christians are being treated as second class citizen or ‘Dhimmi” in a state they founded.
The Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973, fails to protect religious minorities with adoption of Objective Resolution as preamble, Article 2, declaring Pakistan to be home of only Muslims, Article 41, claiming an adult Muslim to be chief executive of Pakistan, Article 203-D baring Christians attorney in Federal Sharia Court, Islamic laws of Compensation and Evidence, Blasphemy law and other Islamic laws.
The defamation of Religion resolution by United Nations Human Right Council will be an instrument to expedite persecution of Christian minorities in Islamic states because existing parallel judicial systems in Pakistan, Egypt, Malaysia and other Islamic countries.
I will appeal US administration and European Union EU to press upon government of Pakistan to ensure justice and award equal basic democratic rights to 20 million Pakistani Christians.
